BRISTOL, Conn. - Barry Pepper (news) will star as auto racing star Dale Earnhardt (news) in "3," a made-for-TV movie by ESPN.

Pepper played the role of Roger Maris in the HBO feature "61." His films also include "Saving Private Ryan," "Knockaround Guys" and "25th Hour."

He also will serve as co-executive producer on "3," which will debut in December. He said Earnhardt "captured my fascination and the hearts of millions of NASCAR (news - web sites) fans across America."

"The opportunity to produce this with them is an aspiring filmmaker's dream come true," he said.

thanks........wonder when it will be aired.....for sure gonna watch it in this household........thanks....... :)

Well when I find out when it comes on it is a must see here.

Barry Pepper? He played the sniper in Saving Private Ryan and was the lead actor in Battlefield Earth, but nah, he just doesnt look like Dale Sr.

With the right makeup, I think he'll do just fine. This pic is from The Green Mile.

I know I'm in the minority here, but enough is enough IMHO.They've renamed a highway in NC. after Dale Earnhardt Sr.,a new book is just out about Him,enough already IMO

There might be more highways named after him. And I'm sure there will be numerous books about him in the future. This is the first movie I've heard that is about him.......and probably will not be the last. My suggestion is that if you think "enough is enough" then you might have to rethink what you think. Anyone, in any sport, that has become as well known as Dale Earnhardt will have numerous books, honors, movies, and streets (or highways, or libraries, or meuseums, or.......ect., ect.) name for them. It's something you might have to get used to. It ain't gonna stop for a while. :)

I"m also sure there will be some less than nice things come up too..........and I'll have to get used to that. :D

Well at least they didnt name it 'The passion of the Earnhardt'. Thank God.
LOL. Better be damn well directed by Mel Gibson if it is.

Seriously, The Passion of Christ was a good movie, I suggest anyone who hasnt seen it to go out and see it.
