ESPN to utilize side-by-side for the Chase

My understanding is that ESPN is a business . If they could sell more advertising , they would . The fact that they are unable to sell more advertising on a Nascar event is not a good thing .

I don't see it the same way. ESPN's listening to the fans. They listened to the fans when they put Allen Bestwick in the booth and moved Marty Reid out, which is not a standard ESPN move. Their coverage has improved greatly over the years.

If improving their product brings them more fans , then they can sell more ads . That is a good thing .

I disagree with you 100%. The networks ARE airing more commercials. FOX and ESPN have elected to do them side-by-side and obviously the advertisers are fine with it because they're not pulling their ads over it. There's the same number of commercials, if not slightly more commercials, than in previous years.

TNT runs around or more than 30 percent of their broadcast at commercials. As has been pointed out before, that is a record for any motorsports broadcast.

It wouldn't be as bad if the commercials were different. However they run the exact same commercials over and over.

Yep. Even during the commercial marathon that is NFL on FOX (where you still don't miss any important plays, by the way), the advertisers have different commercials.

Yeah Andy, Brian France should blow a whistle to make everyone stop before every commercial break.

Why do you keep making this comparison? Football is a made for commercial TV format. They load up the commercials and nobody complains because the players aren't doing anything most of the time. Racing is the opposite.

And that's the other thing that chaps my hyde. FOX basically insults the intelligence of the NASCAR fanbase everytime they put Bozo the Redneck Clown and Jaws in the booth. They wouldn't dare do such a thing with NFL or MLB coverage. As for other sports on TNT, at least Charles Barkley is funny.

I don't miss any racing in the IZOD IndyCar Series.

Andy Petree is in the booth. ;)

I'm willing to bet with the side by side stuff that there will be more commercials to make up for the fact that there is side by side.

Really? I know plenty of football fans that absolutely hated John Madden for that very reason. And don't get any baseball fans started about Joe Buck.

You seem to have this "woe is me" attitude and the believe that all other sports fans love all their broadcasters, and that only NASCAR has it bad.

FOX used side-by-side in the closing laps every week and still had fewer commercials than TNT. In fact, TNT had more commercials in a three hour telecast than FOX did in telecasts that were longer than four hours. ESPN's Loudon telecast last year, with side-by-side, had fewer commercials than TNT's Loudon telecast did last year.

While it might mean more commercials (where we'll still see racing during those commercials), neither network has come close to TNT in the commercial department.

I read all of the above and I think the consensus is everybody wants to do away with commercials, especially Andy. Could be wrong though.

Lets not get carried away there Johali. Andy still likes Danica commercials. ;)

I was wondering what happened to good ole Marty Reid... I am so happy ESPN listened to the fans and got him out... listening to him was like fingernails on a chalkboard. Now if they could get rid of Rick Allen for the Truck races..I would really be happy. (10 wide coming out of turn 3!!!) wish I could emulate his annoying calls in text.
