With the exception of a few I's that need dotting and T's that need to be crossed, a deal appears to have been reached between Ray Evernham and George Gillett, owner of the NHL's Montreal Canadiens.
Evernham told the Journal de Montreal at Richmond International Raceway on Saturday that he would "welcome" Gillett as a partner in Evernham Motorsports.
"Things are going forward," Evernham said. "George is still very interested to become a part of our organization. And we are very keen on welcoming him. We are still advancing towards that goal. George's people, mainly, are looking over details and continuing due diligence.
"It is a long and complex process but things are going well between us. His soccer team (Liverpool) just qualified itself for the Champion's League finals, but he was still supposed to be here with us. He just got snowed in in Vail."
Sources close to the situation say the organization's name will remain Evernham Motorsports.
