I'm sure this helps make the case for NFL owners needing more money!

Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen has added a restored Russian-made fighter jet to his collection of vintage airplanes.

The Herald newspaper reports one of Allen's companies closed on the purchase of the MiG-29 last week.

The jet had been restored by another Washington aviation enthusiast and is currently on display at Allen's aviation museum at Paine Field in Everett. The manager of the Flying Heritage Collection says the jet is not expected to stay in Everett.

Allen founded Microsoft with his high school friend Bill Gates in 1975. He left Microsoft in 1983 and has invested broadly in technology, real estate, sports and the arts. He owns the Seattle Seahawks football team and the Portland Trailblazers basketball team, and is part-owner of Seattle Sounders FC, a major league soccer team.

If its his money, he can waste it however he likes. If you're just backing millionaires by slamming billionaires, then you have no argument.

I'm not passing a moral judgment on him. I am in agreement with you, that its his money to spend. I'm just pointing out that it doesn't help the owners side of the negotiation to have that as an image.

In reality, the MiG 29 is probably equivalent to my decision to buy a 12 pack of beer for him.

Albiet, Paul Allen is the wealthiest owner in the NFL. At one time in the early 2000s, he was worth more than the value of all the NFL and NBA teams combined, so he's in a bit of a different wealth category the rest of the NFL owners.

I agree, he and any other owner of a sports franchise or even a business entity can do whatever they want with their money. But. There's always a dang pesky "but" isn't there?

"But" don't come to the taxpayer for the new stadium or for tax breaks with the threat of moving the team or company. Kraft was playing the governors of Conn and RI like fiddles to get what he wanted out of the governor of Mass. He succeeded.

RI is broke, depending on who you ask we're 280 to 400 million in the hole that needs to be filled by June . We just gave Kurt Schilling a 75 million loan guarantee and tax breaks on a downtown building. For at best 125 jobs.

I need to paint my shed, I'm heading to the town hall to request a tax break...

Gosh, I wonder how some workers might think about this. When you think about it, is it better to not have a job or not paying the extra taxes for those jobs? Incentives for jobs in the various states can create real problems, yet they can also give people a leg up on the economy.

I often wonder how I would feel if the company I worked for laid me off because they were forced by taxes to leave my state. I've been in a situation where I lost a great job, not because of taxes, but because of the economy. Here in WS a few years ago, the city, county and state gave Dell some big tax exemptions to help move a big plant to our great city. It worked and many hundreds of locals got nice jobs. That plant is now empty not because of the economy, but because of technology, but what about those hundreds of people who made a nice living there? Who's at fault? Might there have been other citizens who would have capitalized on this opportunity? Would they be better off now? Incentives for companies to move into a state, country or city is nothing new or will it stop. Its called competition and until we find a different way of bidding on jobs, this will not change. Its who wants the jobs worse and who's willing to give more for those jobs? The problem is who will pay for those jobs when they are gone? Who takes advantage of those jobs when they are available?

Yeah, I had forgotten how those minimum wage people working the concession stands are raking it in hand over fist. If the NFL goes to a 18 game season that means at least 1 more home game. Little Timmy can get his braces then Mr. Scrooge!!!!!!!!

Again, I'm not seeing it. I, as an investor, purchase a company. Fin.
That company then has a responsibility to repay my investment by making a profit. Fin.
The actions of that company's CEO are distinct and separate from the owner, even if they're the same physical person.
If I as an investor can convince local politicians that investing public money into supporting infrastructure for my business.... how is that any different from stores on mainstreet lobbying the city council to repave and improve parking access?
