The 2013 Formula One season comes to a close this weekend with the Brazilian Grand Prix in Interlagos, Sao Paulo, and with both championships sewn up long ago, a more relaxed atmosphere could be expected at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace. However, this race is perhaps one of the most important of the season as it marks the end of an era in many ways. This will be the last race using V8 engines (with turbocharged V6s inbound for 2014) and the last race in Mark Webber’s Formula One career, and it could prove to be the finale for a number of other drivers who are currently without a seat for next season.

Massa has never been my favorite, but I hope finale with Ferrari is a great one. He came so close to winning the championship in Brazil a few years ago, then he suffered the head injury afterwards. I think he deserves some luck.

Thanks for posting that clip, FLRF. I don't see it in your clip, but noticed on similar video of one of the other team's cars last week (it was either Sauber or Williams, not sure now which), their car also has that small wing extending inboard on the top of the brake duct. When the driver brakes for a corner, the duct rotates downward about 10 - 15 degrees, changing the angle of the wing - adding a very small bit of downforce, and changing the airflow towards the back of the car. I guess it doesn't count as a 'driver controlled aerodynamic device', but with the level of attention paid to the details, it is very interesting.

The IR (thermal) images are pretty cool, too. I remember a few years ago they had an IR cam over the pit for one of the cars, and it was clear to see that the new tires fresh out of the warming blankets were much hotter than the worn rubber coming off the car, supposedly having come "up to temp".

RBR must be hungover. 5.1 seconds on Webber's stop earlier and Vettel's last stop was FUBAR.

Not a fan of Vettel but the man is going to have quite a few records broken down the road, he tied with Schumi for most wins in a season.

And I liked Webber's burnout.

Vettel is legendary.

Great to see Webber finish strong. 2nd in the race and 3rd in the WDC.

Vettel is great, but I dont believe he drives in a different zip code than Alonzo, Kimi, Hamilton etc. He and RBR just have something tricked out that no one else can match.

Formula 1 is a joke. When one driver can win 9 races in a row in what's supposed to be the most competitive motorsport in the world then there is a big problem.

I agree but let's see what the turbo V6 cars will bring next year, maybe it'll show who the real men are.

Don't think anybody ever said it was the most competitive motorsport in the world, just that it was the highest level of competition.
McLaren finally looked pretty good as well.
Aye, just in time for the last race of the year.

Another great race - from second place on back. Nico got a great start, but that Red Bull with the Renault bullet is just too stout under Vettel. Once he got out front, it was bye bye time again. Even the tragedy of a 5 second pit stop couldn't slow him down for long!

Congratulations to Seb Vettel and Red Bull Racing. You can't say that the likes of Mercedez-Benz, McLaren, and Ferrari aren't trying their hardest to catch the champs, but clearly have a ways to go. It's been this way before with others - Williams, Ferrari and McLaren since I've been watching - and now the big sports drink bucks are what it takes to build a winning team.

LOL Webber falling down while trying to spray Alonso with champagne! Who is this senorita doing the interviews? Looks like she's wearing one of Eddie Jordan's shirts.

2014 should be interesting with the extensive rules changes. Time marches on, and in racing, as in life, the only thing constant is change.
