There may still be four more races to go in the 2013 Formula One season, but everything that truly matters – that is, the championships – looks set to be decided this weekend in India. Sebastian Vettel has to finish just fifth or higher to secure his fourth consecutive world title, whilst Fernando Alonso must hope that his fierce rival’s unlikely demise coincides with his own top-two finish, although even that may not be enough for the Spaniard. For Red Bull, the constructors’ championship is already in their back pocket with Ferrari requiring a remarkable performance to keep the title alive heading to Abu Dhabi.

Glad to see this GP will take place as scheduled. There was some hubbub earlier in the week about possible cancellation due to a tax dispute.

The visibility looks awful though. So much smog and dust.
That's smoke from people burning dung mostly. A friend of mine flies to Delhi frequently as a freight pilot with Kalitta, and says the stench is awful. The announcers are asked to avoid the subject, but Will Buxton lets it slip by every once in awhile.

They're forecasting no greater than 1.5km visibility over the next 24hrs.

India is one of the worst places on earth. Complete squalor and not befitting of a GP.

Wow. That's nasty. Fortunately, during the practice broadcast they were talking like this would be the last race there for a while. It's not hosting next year and 2015+ is up in the air.

Burning Dung + Formula One = Shyt Fire (sheet far).

..and I thought miserably driving through Los Angeles was bad.

The dung info has changed the whole outlook, the fog is the visual of a great stink.

Definitely a better experience on TV this time.

No real surprises in qualifying, with Rosberg and Hambone splitting the Red Bulls (Vettel on pole of course). Lewis starts behind Seb in 3rd, lining up on he clean side as he did in Japan behind Webber, and hopefully he and Nico will pull off a miracle at the start. Otherwise it's a contest for the also-rans. The announcing team did try to drum up some drama about tire wear, but that would affect everyone anyway.

Some interesting speculation by Lee, David and Steve about Kimi's incentive to sandbag and not help Lotus finish ahead of his new team in the manufacturer's standings. The amount of money award to the top teams is staggering, and the difference between second and third is substantial enough to be in the back of is mind.

Unless something really unusual happens to Vettel's car, the championship will surely be decided tomorrow. Then it'll be a victory parade through the rest of the season. At least Austin is coming next month, and we're hoping Hamilton can pull off a repeat victory ahead of a hungover Red Bull team.

The softs are junk this weekend. It should help Webber out that he's starting high on the grid on the mediums while Vettel has a couple of qualifying runs on his softs already.

Good Pics FLRF, thanks for posting them. They compliment Steve Matchett's description of tire blisters being "just like blisters on your skin, when you burn yourself, or you shoe rubs your foot too tightly", quite nicely.
It'd be great to see your prediction for Webber come true, but he's notoriously bad off the line, and those three guys ahead of him have been pretty good this year. Candles will be lit and fingers crossed, just in case.

Oh boy. I smell another Silverstone.

I mean, once you get used to the smell of burning dung.

The bad start is always a concern with him. Hopefully though the cars on softs pit relatively early and he can build a solid lead in clean air and save his option tires for the final stint when the car is at its lightest. It should be interesting to see it all play out for sure.

Pirelli is now asking teams to run no more than 15 laps on the softs and no more than 35 on mediums. I doubt they'll even last that long.

Oh well, what can you say but congratulations to Red Bull Racing and Seb Vettel.

That said, if his blocking of Hamilton on the start isn't against the rules, nothing is. If the places were switched, he'd bitch like hell.

I haven't seen any post-race news yet, but hope F1 don't penalize Seb for the donuts and glove-throwing. He seemed genuinely excited and humbled by the feat. Incredible that he's reached 4 championships at an earlier age than Alain Prost won his first race. Like it or not, we're seeing history made.

The visibility ruined the race for me. It usually wouldn't bother me but I know now that the air there was humid with ****. Haha

Congrats seb. Amazing feat by Red Bull. Sure hope someone can catch you next year... Hell next race.

Best victory celebration in F-1 that I have seen. Vettel even gave us some expensive donuts and threw gloves into the crowd. Vettel does things his way, thats why I am a fan

The donuts got him a reprimand and a fine. No big deal for him

"Lotus boss Eric Boullier has apologized for the radio exchange between Kimi Raikkonen and Alan Permane during the Indian Grand Prix.

The team's trackside operations director Permane told Raikkonen to "move out of the ****ing way" as the Finn struggled for pace with worn tires while team-mate Romain Grosjean was right behind him." Read the rest here.

We missed that while watching the race, but did hear RoGro whining about some other driver who deigned to recognize his expertise. What a putz.

And once again, 'Poor Old Mark Webber' got the shaft. Why they didn't ask him to bring the car back to the pits - in one piece - is a mystery. Either they had something to hide from the scrutineers, or... no, that's gotta be it.

Heard Ro-Gro say "its not fair" on the radio
I love it when they say that

Is it possible that RBR wanted to examine Webbers car before any further damage was done ?? I thought it was a bit odd that they told him to pull off right away. I thought the alternator problems had been solved but maybe not

In RoGro's defense, Kimi ran him off the track once when he was clearly slower and on much older tires. He's lucky he didn't take them both out of the race. Also, Kimi holding up RoGro for so long allowed Massa to catch back up and challenge for a podium spot. I don't want to sound like I'm putting all of the blame on Raikkonen though, because I'm not sure what the heck Lotus was thinking when they initially decided to attempt to go the final 52 laps on the mediums.
