F1 2023 Spanish GP thread

Bizarre grid. Six different teams in the first six spots. Russell, Perez, Leclerc not making it to Q3. Should make for an interesting race.

Seems to me we’re starting to hit the point in the regulations cycle where the grid is starting to converge on pace along with the teams’ car concepts, but up front Max and Red Bull are still gonna do their thing.
 
Alpine delivering. Amazing how quickly they turned that program around. All it took was a good dressing down by the CEO and they are suddenly all better!

Chico's championship is falling apart.
 
Gasly got destroyed by the stewards. Two consecutive 3 grid drops for impending Sainz and Verstappenx
 
With Gasly’s penalty that actually makes it seven different cars in the top seven spots. Certainly a more interesting grid than Red Bull lockout row 1, Ferrari lockout row 2, Mercedes lockout row 3, etc. Most of the points-paying positions should be pretty hotly contested.
 
What did Ferrari start Leclerc on hard tires for if they were going to wind up pitting him at the same time as the soft runners?
 
Mercedes have to be happy with their update package at its first real race track. Not gonna best Red Bull but they were well clear of everyone else.

There must be something wrong with Leclerc’s chassis because there’s no way he should’ve been that slow this weekend. What a POS that thing looked like.
 
At least Mercedes' updates seem to have worked rather well, if not quite enough. At least they are moving the right direction. Remember, this is only the second time out in essentially a new package, and there's room for more development. It might be too late to contest the championship, but they have got to be thinking more about 2024 than they are today.
 
After FP1 and 2 I was kind of worried about where Mercedes was. They had to work overnight to get decent for Saturday.

Good to see actual progress.

Maybe just the beginning. At least now they have something they can work with. There were so many false dawns with the old car it could not be trusted from one session to the next. Now that they have some consistency, and are apparently going the right direction, I expect the development to go much better. They are almost there.
