Qatar is probably the east exciting venue on next year's calendar. Flat, featureless and every corner looks the same.

Interesting that the official team partner is now identified as TWG Global. They’ve pretty much scrubbed the Andretti name as much as possibly, though it sounds like Mario will still be an ambassador of sorts.

Sure would like to know what changed when Michael Andretti was dropped from the name of the team.

I was enjoying my break from F1 and it looks like they'll get me back in by allowing Cadillac onto the grid. I'm relieved and happy about this outcome but at the same time it feels bittersweet as it feels very much as though F1 is closing the door behind the existing legacy names of the sport with the specific intent of being a manufacturer only series someday in the foreseeable future. I don't know how that will work out given where I expect us to be at economically in 6 months time but I guess that isn't for me to worry about.

Having Michael lead the effort in such a brash and abrasive manner as he did wasn’t going to work out and Greg Maffei, among others, made that known to all involved. GM wanted to move forward with the effort, Dan Towriss and Mark Walter wanted to go forward with it, and there’s already a backbone with the shop they’ve built and staff they’ve assembled in Silverstone. Buying Michael out of Andretti Global and working more discreetly was the best way to get it across the finish line. Remember that at one point F1 even asked GM if they would be willing to partner with a different team.

Fwiw, GM and TWG are now going to pay an expansion fee of $450M rather than the $200M that was originally required as well.

I kind of thought the same thing but wanted someone else's opinion on the subject. I was never a Michael Andretti fan and mostly because of the attitude he has always had as you stated above. I do admire his success with multiple racing teams and he obviously knows what he's doing.

This will be interesting going forward.

Tim Mayer was just fired by F1. He was a steward and the son of Teddy Mayer. Apparently he's being blamed for fans getting on the track at COTA.

I am bewildered that Miami and Las Vegas are listed by city, but October only says "USA" instead of "Austin".....

This might be old news but it's the first time I've heard it. In 1984 Zak Brown was a teenager on Wheel of Fortune who won $3,050. He used it all to buy a go-kart.

Zak seems like the Hendrick of F1 - Completely approachable, doesn't hide behind other people, tells it like it is.

I think they're listed by race name, "Grand Prix of ...". Notice most of the names are countries, not cities or tracks. COTA was on the schedule first, so it was 'USA'. The others were added later so city names had to be used.

That's true but sometimes it's also the city governments that pay to advertise their city in the name of the race.
That's why Mexico changed to Mexico City and Brazil changed to Sao Paolo a few years ago.

Max threatened to put George "in the wall on his head." Do we really need for the champion to act like that?

I like both of these drivers but times like this I have trouble liking them. They're like a couple of arguing kids in the school yard.

Neither of these guys is terribly likeable to me and as such, I take the tact of "let them fight".

This is F1 and these two rich kids ain't catching hands. The most we're gonna get out of this is each of them screeching about the other that they're exceeding track limits. This ain't Bowman Gray.
