F1 Russian GP Race Thread

Never seen it all fall apart in slow motion like it did for Lando. Brutal to watch.

Mercedes and Red Bull are probably both stoked. 2nd for Max out of nowhere after being one of the first to jump on inters.

Just gotten worse for Lando.

Damn.

Going back a page it’s funny watching the reactions from you guys. Lewis does the same thing Lando does and only Hamilton got all the ****. Lando still stays out crashes and he gets aww shucks.

Terrible for Lando but I bet he learned a golden lesson today that you are probably better off just driving the car and letting the engineers do the rest. I’d feel the same if Hamilton stayed out and crashed.

Whoa now there bucko.

I'm over the moon for Lewis, I thought Lewis dropped the ball originally missing his first call. I would have enjoyed Lando getting his first win. Also, the McLaren resurgence has been fun to watch unfold.

I didn’t say anything about Lewis homie. Lando was given a call to make and he swung and missed. Tough spot to be in when you’re a driver and don’t have the weather data the team has. He was a freak occurrence away from his first win…how often is it dry all race and then starts spitting with seven to go?

I’m not trying to start anything. Just an observation.

Btw, I’m still confused by Bottas’s engine change. They say it was tactical but it sure as hell didn’t impact todays’s race at all in terms of keeping Red Bull from scoring points or whatever.

Can they swap engines between cars? Because Bottas should be ok engine wise since he just had a new one out in at Monza.

What a wild race, but it was disappointing to see it get away from Lando, especially so close to the end.

Tragic for Lando, but his day will come. Lots of guys who win a Grand Prix lose a sure one first.

I think the GOAT discussion is now closed.
Don't get me wrong, as you've seen many greats in their respected eras.

Schumacher
Senna
Prost
Piquet
Clark
Vettel

I could go on, but the dominance Lewis has shown in this Hybrid era has been nothing short of incredible.

His stats speak for themselves. Schumacher is still going to be the greatest to many. However, Lewis consistent dominance has stretched beyond what Schumacher was able to do in his run with Ferrari. That's just the God's honest truth.

Obviously the rain made the last part of the race exciting but I was hoping it would let up when Hamilton went in for wets and Lando would sail on to a win but that sure didn't work as I wanted it to. Worked in Verstappens favor though.

Stroll got a 10 second penalty for wiping out Gasly.

Stroll has been a bit disappointing this year, especially after his performances in the first quarter of the season were very good.

He's usually one of the cleaner wheel to wheel drivers, but the one time he qualifies well and gets off to a strong start. It get ****** up, I think his pit stop was slow as well.

However, he just seems out of sorts as of late.

So many greats that Jackie Stewart got left out. And Lauda. And Fangio.

Personally my fav was Stewart, but some of that comes from respect for his work on the safety front. Everyone was dying around Jackie, and mostly his friends, but he fought for safety and then went out in stupidly dangerous conditions and smoked everyone anyway.

Part of the dominance comes from the car's superiority, but the rest is all Lewis. I think he would have run up front no matter what era you pick. You also have to be very afraid when Lewis has his back to the wall. Look at how he performed at Bahrain. Look at Silverstone. Look at Hungary. Every time he was as good as finished in the points, and yet every time he managed a drive for the ages. His career is absolutely full of those kind of drives.

However, Lewis races so hard I don't believe he would have survived Stewart's era. Even Stewart was lucky and had a really nasty one at Spa. Of course, Lewis would have probably adjusted and left guys a little more room and been less aggressive, but that would not be the same Lewis we are all in awe of.

We're seeing something really special now. Sure, the dominance since 2014 has been suffocating, but now Lewis is having to fight and we are really seeing his greatness. If he can pull this championship off, there will be no room to complain about how he supposedly always had the best car.

His stats speak for themselves. Schumacher is still going to be the greatest to many.
Schumacher disqualified himself from any claim to greatness when he took Hill out at Adelaide, and then (admittedly) tried to crash JV out at Jerez 97. His career was nothing but chopping, blocking and swerving.

However, Lewis consistent dominance has stretched beyond what Schumacher was able to do in his run with Ferrari. That's just the God's honest truth.
No argument from me.

Worth discussing is that Lewis was in the catbird seat with nothing to lose. If Lando pitted, for sure Lewis would have gone for it with no stop. That close to the end, you have to do the opposite of what the leader is doing. Lando didn't stop, so all there was to do was stop and hope for a downpour which is what we got.

I got up late and turned the TV on right as Lewis was crossing the line, so I have not watched it all yet, but it looks like it was a very good GP.

Nah, he was just mediocre. He was middling in 15th all race while Leclerc, Verstappen came through in a matter of laps.

Bottas is a 1-fast lap specialist. That’s all.
That's what mailing it in means. Botas has lost his fire. It's an obscure term, so my bad.

Hamilton simply crushed him. Botas needs a fresh start and that's what he is going to get at Alfa. Not a great car, but at least an opportunity to rescue himself. However, if he is going to give up now when he is in a Mercedes, how long will it take to give up in an Alfa?
