"NASCAR inspectors added a false TV camera shell from Ryan Newman's Dodge"

Please explain this one to me.

I remember when they first started putting cameras on the roof, they looked like a shark fin, they were a little taller than what they are now. Some of the drivers believed that it helped them aerodynamically, so NASCAR put a shell on every car.

Don't know if that's why they still do it, but that's what I heard back in the day....

If it is contoured in a " special " way it can improve the direction of the air flow, thus improving the aerodynamics of the car. The shell , i'm assuming here, probably didn't conform to NASCAR specs. I think i remember hearing something about Waltrips also this season.

Very curious as to what hard numbers Nascar could provide for an actual performance advantage that Ryan could gain from this. Some of this aero stuff is just unbelievable.

On the other hand,The Elliotts beat Chevy/nascar like a drum with it back in the day. :owquitit:

Guys,
Don't forget that we're dealing in an area where one hundred-thousandsth of an inch can make a measureable difference in airflow and thus in how the car performs on the track.
This ain't like building a house where if it's within an eigth or sixteenth of an inch, it's close enough.
It's why the teams spend all the money on wind tunnel time.
