Fall

this is the best time of the year IMO, football is just getting started and I cant wait for the leaves to start changing so the wife and I can make that trip from Boone to Asheville on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

I'm with you GP. Fall has always been my favorite time of the year. I love the cooler weather, flannel shirts, leaves falling, football, apple cider, apple pie, apple crisp, my birthday. It has gotten a little sadder over the years, but it is still my favorite time of the year.

First day of Fall and no tkj, where is she?

Her uncle (which is also one of my daughter's father-in-law) has been in critical condition. He is having surgry as I type.
He fell last Wednesday and broke his hip. He has lots of other medical problems that has complicated things. Please say a prayer for him and his family.

I knew I was missing someone.

Kell, sending thoughts and prayers in her direction.. Please tell her we're all pulling for her uncle. A broken hip is serious --- particularly in an older person.

36' when I woke up a 6 am yesterday, dayum furnace kicking in woke me. I do like the fall but I really hate what follows.

Ya' know I think I read somewhere that here in NC the high yesterday was just above freezing. They are expecting a long and hard winter for the next several years. I know if I knew someone that was thinking about moving here I'd caution against it unless they really loved living in a deep freezer. Only to be thrown into the frying pan with temps above 115 the other half of the year. And the humidity!! Fish are swimming 2 feet above the river the humidity is so high. On some days you have to wear a scuba tank just to keep from drowning. Yep, this is not a State to move to by anyone...

:)

tkj24 just got back from a cruise on Saturday.. She didn't invite anyone either. LOL :D

Surgery went good. Hope they can start weining off vent.

Did you ever make it all the way up to Mabry's mill in Virginia? Great little place to stop, rest, get some icecream or what ever and hit the bathroom. If you go all the way on the parkway, it'll take you a couple of hours at 45 mph...as long as others go that fast. We just might have to do that trip this year if I can get a day off.

Yeah, I've been there. Nice place and good cornmeal. The Parkway is nice but you better not be in any hurry.. :)

What do you mean if you can get a day off, don't you get vacation. :D

Yep...fall is definitely here! Freezing cold this morning, and only warmed up to 72 today for maybe an hour, then it fell.

Next vacation is Thanksgiving week and we're heading to Oklahoma to have a mini reunion with my folks. It's hard to get out there very often and this could be one of the last times all of the family can get together.

I do get Sundays off but racing and football have me under control, especially during that time of the year.

All of those Horrible conditions sure has not stopped the Yankees, West Virginians, and Mexicans from moving to N.C.

Priorities, buckaroo, priorities. :)

With the power of prayer and good thoughts, Marcus (tkj24's uncle) was weined off the vent after surgery yesterday. He is doing good. Please to pray that his numbers continue to stabilize and they can continue to protect his kidney. (he only has one) Thank you.

Yea we stopped at Mabry Mill last year when we were camping at a state park in VA, that place was really neat.

Mabry Mill is nice but I much prefer your drive from Boone to Asheville. That is a spectacular drive, but again, you must allow lots of time. The more I think of it, the more I think I will take a day off work, no pay, and make the drive and view the beautiful foliage and scenery.

its an all day trip for us...drive from charlotte to boone, and then pickup the parkway and then drive drive from Asheville to charlotte.

To anyone that hasnt done it....its worth the drive.

We usually go the other way, but might have to try going south next time.

buck, have the locusts stripped all the plants in your area? What with them and the earthquakes and windstorms I don't know why anyone would want to move to NC. One second its a deluge of rain and then blistering heat. You can't stay dry; it's either rain or sweat.

Everyone stay away from NC. People are leaving in droves. Much of the State has been declared a disaster are. Even the the Corps of Engineers are trying to figure out a way for the Interstates not to go thru NC for the North-South travellers. Visitors who linger are being put into quarantine to insure they are bringing anything out of the state that is of danger to the rest of humanity.

SST, Andy, others, make other plans. I hear New Mexico is really nice and they are cheaper than other states in terms of cost of living.

:D

we are actually thinking of going north this time and ending our trip on the parkway at Daniel Boone Inn.....mmmm some fried chicken sounds good right now.

Hey guys thanks for all the prayers. With the trip and then all the hospital visits it has been a bit overwhelming. Everything is looking up though.
