I'm thinking more the non Cup winners rather than the Danica factor but who the heck knows? More interest is better, right?

A new NASCAR Fan Council survey indicates that fans are excited about the first five races of the 2012 NASCAR Nationwide Series season.

Not since 1995, when Nationwide Series regulars won the first seven events, have four of the first five races been won by non-full-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers. NASCAR Camping World Truck Series regular James Buescher won the opener at Daytona International Speedway, current point leader Elliott Sadler scored at both Phoenix and Bristol and defending series champion Ricky Stenhouse Jr. prevailed at Las Vegas, before Sprint Cup Series driver Joey Logano finally broke the string on March 24 at Auto Club Speedway.

Following the Fontana race, 3,932 NASCAR Fan Council members responded to a question about the Nationwide Series regulars prevailing against their Sprint Cup brethren. Over 70 percent of those responding said the wins by Buescher, Sadler and Stenhouse makes them feel good about the NASCAR Nationwide Series. They also said they would like to see more NASCAR Nationwide Series regulars win races, and expect them to do so. Perhaps most important, Fan Council members said they are “more interested in the NASCAR Nationwide Series because regulars are winning.”

Over 80 percent said they do not miss seeing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series regulars winning Nationwide Series events, and had not lost interest in the series because their favorite Sprint Cup driver is not racing.

From here.

Do they happen to have a comparison of the Butts in the seats this year compared to before? I think that might be interesting also.

Like her or not Danica has brought a ton of attention to the series. Plus no Edwards dominating every race has made it much better.

Brad hasn't been running too well, but he and the Busch's will start the same old cup domination again. It's been real exciting seeing the regulars take their series back.

Are those attendance numbers "Andy approved"? ;)

Attendance at Bristol was adversely affected by the deadly storms in Indiana and Kentucky. I think.
We may very well see a similar trend at Texas Motor Speedway in a couple of weeks after the latest tragedies in the DFW area...

I'm not buying into that train of thought but interesting none the less.

Thanks DP, Was it 2011 or 2010 when drivers first had to state what series they where running for points in?

There was also a drop in the cost of ticket prices for that same year-to-year comparison (at least at the tracks I went to).
