Michael Schumacher won the fastest Grand Prix in history at the Italian Grand Prix. His average speed of 247km/h was 5km/h faster than the previous record back in 1971 at the Italian Grand Prix by Peter Gethin.

Are u sure about that? I dont think thats right. The commentaors were saying that he was 1kmh slower than the required speed.

I have not heard anything, and I think the announcers would have said something...

It was on Speed news as well as on the formula1.com website.

Q: Michael, we have just worked out that you have won the fastest Grand Prix in history. Your average speed of 247km/h was 5km/h faster than the previous record. What are your thoughts on that?
MS: Well, I guess it is so long ago I wasn’t even alive at that stage when the first one was set. Or was I? (MS is told it was in 1971) Ah, ‘71. Those two weren’t (alive)! No, I don’t think very strongly about that. It doesn’t give me a pleasure. Ten points and fastest lap and things like that, they give me far more pleasure

That was something that a press spokesman has figured out, it isnt offical. And no other websites have picked up on this, ie www.crash.net www.motorsport.com www.autosport.com had MS broken the record it WOULD have been reported. I understand that u read that, but this was merley something said by a member of the press, its not offical. He would have said what time he achived overall etc had he managed this.

I think the press spokeman has made a mistake, I mean even www.formula1.com (F1's offical site) hasnt even picked up on this. If u dont belive that then go take a look in the news section.

Yes but again at www.f1-live.com there is no mention of the GP being the fastest in history, if it was the fastest it would have been made a big deal of I can assure u. And f1-live are not official timing and scoring people, they run independantly. Of course IF there is a news article somewhere saying that this was the fastest GP in history then I can accept that, but as it is there isnt any. If this was the fastest GP in history it would have been picked up on.

Yeah...I was sceptical on the record being broken, but it would seem it was. I will find out to make sure if it was indeed the fastest GP ever...hehe. ;) Let me phone some of my people in the business. :D

I think now we can assume that the record has NOT been broken. Had it been done so it would surley have been published on motorsport websites (on which I have seen no mention of) and it would certainly have been in F1 magazines which again I have seen nothing about this.
