Fatback to the 18?

It's on Jayski's.

Someone tell me why this will, or will not work.

That might just work out for both parties. Fatback is a passionate guy that isn't afraid to show his feelings about what's going on and Bobby is a laid back fellow that doesn't show much emotion. It might end up being a perfect match.

Bobby is not really all that laid back when it comes race time, believe me, I've listen to many a race on his scanner. What calmed him down a lot of the time, was Jimmy Makar's calm reassurance and delicate suggestions.

I'm probably biased because I don't care for Fatback, but I don't think their personalities will mesh, and besides, I want a Chevy guy in there not a Ford....

Welcome back Happy! I'm kinda with you...but I think they could make it work, especially with the common template next year.

You're probably right. Fatback may only look like the big jerk b/c of the fall-out w/ Rudd, I guess before that, I had a pretty high regard for him as a crew chief.

This rumor confuses me though because I was under the impression Fatback was part of the reason they went after a new driver for the team, particularly Sadler. I thought he wanted to work with a younger driver. And while Bobby's not old by any means, he sure does have more 'sperience than Sadler....

Maybe JGR made him an offer he couldn't refuse. They've been know to do that.

If this proves to be true, which it may or may not, it will be interesting to see how McSwain adapts to an entirely new team. I don't think he's had to that before as CC.

If Baldwin is already lined up to go with Yates that is a lot of personnel movement that went unnoticed. That would indicate that is a mutually agreed upon deal among all the players. Might not mean that it was anyones first choice, but a negotiated move.

Would be interesting to see, I am always impressed with what Fatback has done. Labonte hasn't had a good year, so maybe Fatback can help improve the #18 team next year, if this rumor is true.

I'm kinda surprised by this. I thought he was looking forward to working with Elliot next year. Do you suppose he had a falling out with Robert over the whole Rudd issue? I don't mean because Rudd left but maybe during this whole drug out process they lost some respect for each other? Just speculation that's all.

Sounds like a reasonable interpretation JarrettFan. Wonder how is attitude will work in the Gibbs organization. Can really only afford to have one problem child...

That's the truth HappyHour! If this goes down, I wish the best for both Fat Back and the Gibbs organization. I would like to see Bobby a lot higher in the points battle next year. Like second, right behind DJ.:)

Hey a battle like in '99 between those two would be awesome! (Except of course w/ Bobby on top this time ;) )

I wouldn't mind a 5 win, 23 top five season like Bobby had in '99.

That would be fun wouldn't it? The poor first half that DJ had and the entire year the Bobby had sure brings on a craving for '99 re-runs.

Probably not if you're a fan of anyone else (except maybe Jeff Burton).
