Favorite driver thread

I was a big fan of Darrell Waltrip’s and after he hung it up I began following Jimmie Johnson. After Jimmie retired I never really latched onto another driver. You could call me a fan of all drivers….well almost! 😁

He shows up at every race. :punkrocke

My first favorite driver was Tony Stewart. My parameter for choosing a driver was that he must've had a good rookie year, and the first one I noticed was Tony.

After he retired, I went a number of years without a favorite. I decided on Briscoe because he was an SHR driver, and I saw a bright future.

I liked Stewart as well. First race I ever watched, he was leading. He was my favorite, then I liked Logano, and now my favorite is Larson!

I guess Larson is my favorite, then Bowman.
I like Hocevar too, mostly for his speed and potential, but he does need to race cleaner.
I also like Briscoe and Preece, I want them to disprove their naysayers.

But I am not passionate about any of them, I want to see a good race above all else.

Staying with the 24 eh? I've always liked the appearance of the car.
That’s pretty much the reason. I went through most of 2019 not really knowing who I wanted to root for. Finally decided to go with Byron mainly due to the number, but now he’d definitely stay my favorite even if he switched teams.

Right now I’m a Chase, Larson, Bowman and Kyle Busch fan. I pulled for Almirola when he was in cup. Long ago I was a die hard Jeff Burton fan.

1. Tony Stewart
2. Kyle Larson (since before he won his first race)
3. Denny Hamlin (he’s a good villain)
4. Daniel Suarez (just seems all around nice)
5. Ryan Blaney

And happy to see Bell, Chastain, or Wallace to do well.

Warming up to Logano after several years of loathing.

1. Jeff Gordon: still my favorite race car driver, will always be.
2. Michael Schumacher: GOAT. Best I ever seen, ruled F1 with an iron fist when it was his time to be at the top.

Current drivers:

1. Kyle Larson: had my attention since his battle vs JG at Chicagoland in 2014, it’s been awesome witnessing his ascension to a top driver. Love watching him race in anything, if you’re paying to see him race it’s a bargain.

2. Chase Elliott: smooth operator, incredibly talented. He’d fit in incredibly well in the Winston Cup era with his consistent race craft and bringing the car home when it’s not there, but he’s going to make his mark in this era. Already has with his 2020 cup, he’ll win more of them.

3. Kyle Busch: Rowdy…..still imo one of the best in the biz, worth the price of a ticket and I think he’s got plenty left in the tank despite those wishes of “fans”to retire him.

4. William Byron: stone cold assassin sometimes you never know when he’s coming. Also can have dominant days that result in wins, business like. Some say it’s luck I say it’s there’s still rewards for days of taking care of your equipment, not putting yourself in trouble and staying around till the end to take advantage of other’s mistakes. He reminds me of if Kevin Harvick and Mark Martin’s talents combined, you’d get Willy B. Plus it’s nostalgic and a slice of childhood for me when the 24 wins, that never gets old.

5. This is more or less a spot for a current driver that really has ascended the past 3 years or so, not so much a fan but I enjoy watching him race and that’s Christopher Bell. I think he’s top 3 talent in Cup, and you can see each year since his first championship four berth he’s getting better and better, he’s the franchise for JGR. Awesome talent, a beast.
