Favorite Retro NASCAR Races

I find myself always flipping through old YouTube videos of races late at night. I was curious what era and races in particular some of you watch or remember from back in the day.

Here are my five favorite:

5- 1998 Busch Goodwrench Service 200, Rockingham- Matt Kenseth nudges away Tony Stewart on the final corner in an sponsored Chevy.

4- 2003 Carolina Dodge Dealer 400, Darlington- "Have you ever?" "NO I'VE NEVER"

3- 2001 Pepsi 400, Daytona- I love how on edge the cars seemed back then. And obviously that was a cool finish for Little E.

2- 1987 Daytona 500- The last unrestricted 500. Pure power for that time.

1- Anything in 1994. I think it's the rising star Gordon and the old fan favorite that makes this season fun to me. I loved the old Luminas and T-Birds. I loved how many short tracks there were back then. Just a great season.

How about you guys?

Favorite of all time is when Gordon used the chrome horn at Bristol to take the win away from Rusty.

That or when Gordon went under the white line at 'dega to make a pass for the lead, nearly colliding with a car that was just getting up to speed from outta the pits.

85 when Bill Elliott made up 2 laps under green to win at Talladega.
Darlington, not sure of the date, when Kurt Bush and Ricky Craven went toe to toe for the last 5 laps or so. I forgot who even won that one. It should have been a photo finish.
November 15, 1992 Atlanta, Alan Kulwicki leads the points for the first time and wins the championship, Elliott places second and wins the race, Richard Petty's last race and some young snot nosed upstart makes his first start, Jeff Gordon.

That Atlanta race in 1992 was pretty special. I really wish they'd go back to that old configuration.

fall race 1989 at dover. Dale and mark side by side for 25 laps smoke rolling off the tires, and of course Dale wins.

I enjoy watching stuff when Dale Earnhardt was racing, get a kick out of his interviews too
Really enjoy old IROC races too, anything with Earnhardt

My 2 favorite things to watch are the older Busch Clash' races from the 80's and 90's and the Gatorade Twin 125's from then as well.

edit - and yeah the IROC stuff is fun to watch as well. I always like the one when Eddie Cheever and Earnhardt got into it.

Gotta be the '93 Daytona 500 for me. Being a DJ fan I was happy with the result of the "Dale and Dale" show, and I love how the other CBS announcers just shut up and let Ned call Dale home on the last lap. There was other cool stuff about that day too: Rusty's barrel roll, the Kyle Petty/Bobby Hillin scuffle, Al Unser Jr's only NASCAR start. Just a memorable race for a lot of different reasons.

Coincidental that this gets posted at the same time that NASCAR takes down a number of older races from YouTube.

2001 Atlanta spring race.

The last unrestricted race was the 87 Diehard 500 at Talladega. Plate race #1 was the 88 Daytona 500.

The Gordon pass was at Daytona in the 99 500. He dive bombed Rusty Wallace & almost ran over Ricky Rudds crippled racer till Wallace lifted and let him back on the track surface.

For me:
1991 Busch Clash, Srs last to first run in the 2nd segment.
1990 Winston 500 Sr
1990 Diehard 500 Sr
1992 Winston 500 Davey Allison
1988 Daytona 500 Bobby Allison
1978 Winston 500 Cale Yarborough (although I cannot find a copy of this race, I'd like to see it)
2003 Winn Dixie 250 Jr
2006 Winn Dixie 250 Jr
2005 Winn Dixie 250 Martin Jr
2006 Aarons 312 @Dega Martin Jr
1989 Winston 500 Davey Allison
1998 Daytona 500 Sr
1999 Daytona 500 JGordon
1996 Winston 500 Marlin
1995 Diehard 500 Marlin
2000 Winston 500 Sr
2005 Pepsi 400 Stewart
2001 EA Sports 500 Jr

As you can see I'm a huge fan of racing at Daytona & Talladega. I find myself flipping through all these races and reliving the memories on a daily basis...

I believe that was in the Daytona 500.

Labonte in victory lane with a wrecked car (Earnhardt spun him too late - he fixed that in one of the next Bristol races).

Alan Kulwick's Polish victory lap (I think they should call it a Kulwick lap).

Craven and Busch in a close finish at Darlington.

My favorite Daytona 500. Gordon's first 500, too, he ran pretty well in it.

1992 Atlanta finale is probably my favorite to watch.

Least favorite race: 2007 Daytona 500. No reason. *coughs*
