From now on, I'm shipping with the Postal Service. I ordered something last Tuesday and it has taken an entire week for FedEx to transport said package from Kansas to West Virginia.

Now, I'm not an expert or anything, but I'm fairly sure I could make that drive in 17 hours.

Oh, FedEx tracking says it will be Thursday before I get the package. I could drive to West Virginia in three hours. Ridiculous.

ummmm, do you think they are going to make a special trip just for you? It's not Fedex..it's the shipper..They probably picked a 7-10 day shipment

I ordered a car charger from amazon 8 days ago and won't get it till the 24th, because I chose the free shipping option

I always ship fedex 3 day, ups 3 day, or postal priority. all about the same price, but depends on the dealer.

Amazon's good as hell. I ordered a new case for my i**** and it arrived promptly. Ordered it on Friday and used the standard shipping option, USPS had it delivered to my hand by Tuesday afternoon.

Fedex sucks
UPS sucks
DHL sucks
USPS sucks
the only one that doesn't is

What did you order? How big was it? Who did you order if from? Bucky is probably right it's the shipper. Or it got shipped to Indianapolis 1st, then to Memphis, then to you.

There are issues with all of them at some time or another. Like was said before, it was probably the shipper that selected a long option. Personally my least favorite is the USPS. Their tracking absolutely BLOWS by comparison to FedEx or UPS. Even if it is late with one of those two, you at least know where your package is. USPS? I don't think they have a clue what tracking means.

LOL..USPS tracking does blow

I've made almost 70 purchases from fleabay and on-line retailers since last May. I've gotten great service from FedEx,UPS and USPS, also gotten krappy service from each one also. Overall one doesn't seem to be any better or worse.

USPS tracking? What's that?

You work for A Duie pile?

I never heard that before I googled it one day then it made sense. It was the guys name, people didn't think things through at the turn of the 20th century.

USPS tracking is what the brass is pushing right now. Right now we track about 76% of our parcels and have a98% success rate. Yep, we have problems just as the others day. When you look at if overall, it just about evens out with the gripes of all the delivery services.

That would be registered mail. Every person that touches the package has to sign for it. So unlike Fedex and UPS they don't drop packages on your door steps. You have to sign for it.

I found out the hard way that DHL is the same way- has to be signed for. Thankfully they redelivered.

Sign for and tracking a package are 2 different things...And yes I do have to sign for some of my FEDEX packages...as said before..DEPENDS on the what you and the shipper choose.

I guess I've been lucky, never had a tracking problem with USPS, UPS, or FedEx.
The only really horrible service was DHL. The package got from Waco to Tyler in 1 day. It took a week to get from Tyler to Palestine --- 45 miles.
And then only because I raised hell. I even went to Tyler to try to get it, but no one knew where the distribution point was.

Well, Palestine is in the Middle East, no wonder it took so long:p

You are right about registered mail having to have everyone that touches the piece has to sign for it, but there are several USPS pieces that have tracking and don't have to be signed for. If a signature is needed, it costs more. Here's the straight dope on accountable mail from the USPS. First off, straight tracking can be done even with third class bulk mailings. Again, it costs more, but the price is going down and if you do it on line, it's even free. Next is insurable mail. If the piece is insured for less than $50, no signature is needed, but if over $50, signature. Next we have certified mail. This is the class that most people call registered mail. This is the lowest class of accountable mail that a carrier has to sign for. Certified mail has to be signed for by the customer. You can add to that with a return receipt requested and also addressee only. Extra charge for each of those. Next is Express mail. Again, the carrier has to sign for it but the sender can waive the addressee's signature so none is needed in that case. There are a few classes that are next, but they are very rare and in nearly 30 years of carrying mail, I've only dealt with them on two occasions. They are so rare that most clerks and carriers don't know how to handle them. BTW, they deal with customs. Then we come to registered mail. Here's where it becomes really complicated. While what I said was true that all registered pieces have to have everyone sign for them, that isn't entirely true. International registered mail is handled like certified mail. While the addressee has to sign for it, not even the carrier has to sign for it. All of those classes have tracking numbers and more are being used every day. Nearly all parcels we deliver having tracking numbers and more first class letters are becoming that way.

Hope that explains things a bit more about tracking in the USPS.

I had FedEx lose a cylinder head that I shipped once. If I can fit something into one of the USPS flat rate boxes, I'll go that route. UPS has always been pretty good to me, usually gets here before the estimated delivery date.
I just ordered my girlfriend som Kyle Busch goodies from NASCAR.com Store, should be arriving by UPS next week :D

I just ordered the same thing on another website and had it shipped via USPS. It's expected to arrive via USPS on Tuesday (at the latest).

As an employee of the USPS, I say don't hold your breath. Mind you, I'm not putting down my own job, it's just that I do have a little experience in saying something will arrive on time.

I shipped some packages for my current project back and forth twice form here to boulder CO.

Overnight for $20 in a flat rate envelope, can't beat that!

Remember this, America moves by truck. Every aspect of life in the U.S.A can be attributed to a truck of some sort bringing it to you. So next time you see a big rig on the Highway, don't cut him off just to save a minute on your day, give 'em some respect. Or your package might be late. Like Andy's was!!!!

Here's a little something for y'all to ponder. The USPS uses UPS to move many parcels. When you get a package from the USPS, look at the label and see if you can see a UPS tracking number.

Absolutely true, buck. UPS gets it to my PO, then my route lady gets it to me. Especially small stuff that can fit in my mailbox.
