I think I now understand the actions and frustrations of the residents in New Orleans regarding FEMA.

My daughter lost everything. She did the paperwork and had a FEMA inspector look at her place. "You don't qualify". No explaination given.

70 some year old woman who lives down the road from her. Her basement is full of water, the furnace should be at least checked along with her fuse box. "Makes too much" She lives on 14 grand a year from SS. Next day the house was condemned.

Each time we talk she has at least one more FEMA horror story. This is a semi-rural, blue collar, dirt under the nails, work for what you got community.

If we can send money, equipment, troops to Haiti and other places we can do a hellofva lot better job here at home.

Yesterday afternoon she went to the FEMA HQ after digging thru ruined clothes, she returned their blue windbreaker and several T-shirts, the ones that say FEMA Medical Team on them and resigned. Told them something about their lips and her buttocks,,,That's my little girl!!!:D:D:D:beerbang:

Volunteer work for them, did Katrina on a Medical team.

She was asked to go to Haiti but couldn't, I think she was in the Fire Academy at the time.

She doesn't want or expect them to give her anything that anyone else wouldn't be getting. But they haven't given her any reason other than 'don't qualify'. Frustrating.

SST, you've heard about us down here. Finally stopped swimming Saturday, only to have FEMA keep us swimming in red tape.
Flood insurance is a scam, municipal help( ha ha) is lackluster at best.
Anybody want to buy some slightly used pumps?:sarcasm:

Yeah, I worked with FEMA in environmental hazard containment for a few years. Finally broke with them over a matter of principle, and hell, it isn't like I am all that principled myself.

FEMA is crooked as a hoop-snake, buried in bs and over regulated.

Best of luck to all affected up there, just keep pressing through the red tape if possible and hope for the best.

Good luck.:beerbang:

MM,
Wife and I hear from our daughter at least twice a day, I've been down there once only to get turned away. From what we hear and the little I saw Hope Valley was dealt a devastating blow. There is no municiple help, FireFighters are all volunteers. They have jobs and disasters of their own to deal with.

Good luck dealing with FEMA, the bastages. And take it easy, Jen's on the rescue 12-14 hours a day and she says there's been a record number of heart attacks.

Late yesterday, the main bridge to town was finally opened after 5 days of repair. Later on last night,a 18 wheeler fell through a part of the same bridge that was just repaired. Those Union workers sure know how to keep job security!!And the inspector must have a sheepish look on his face as well."There is never time to do it right, but there is always time to go back and fix it"-Anonymous:idunno:
