The "good old days" ??
Ok Denny and JJ fans, Ford, Toyota and Chevy fans, gather 'round while I give you the depressing facts.
JJ is off to his best chase start yet, but he's getting beat by Some Pollack that has the same chase average, but 2 more wins. Is this a new development? Not really. Over the past 12, JJ has an average finish of 11.6 Not too shabby, but the Pollack almost halves that average over the past 12, coming in with a 6th place average finish.
Meanwhile, denny got out of his car and stared at it for 5 minutes without talking to the press. Grubb had to save Denny from another depression by whispering sweet nothings in his ear. "They can't beat us on the track. We're too face". Magic words indeed, because Denny snapped out of it and smiled. "They can't beat us on the track. We're too fast". I know, it's hard to keep the voice of Gollum out of your head when you read that, but is it true? Noooooo. Denny has an average finish of 12th place over the last dozen races, so they ARE beating him on the track.
Maybe Talladega will help them. Oops, Brad has 2 wins and a 13th place career average finish there. JJ and Denny have the same 18th place finish average at Talladega, and JJ hasn't finished a plate race all year. Maybe Brad will wreck.
Maybe the 1.5's will be the key for Denny and JJ. I'm not sure where the JGR mile and a half program is, but we know JJ is real good, but there may be a problem. Brad fixed it so JJ can't wiggle the junk in his trunk as much as he likes to, and that Dodge sure out-wiggled that Chevy in the last 30 at Chicago.
Then there's fuel mileage, a subject that makes Denny turn to Jello. He's even talking about giving up some HP to get more laps per tank because he says he doesn't know how to manage fuel mileage. Even cool headed JJ and Chad are a little off balance while they cry about Brad not using his blinker when merging, and JJ running too hard to stay ahead of him and flirting with disaster at dover. Very uncharacteristic of JJ. Meanwhile, Paul Wolfe keeps out thinking them all.
How consistant is the #2 team? 8 top 5's and 11 top 10's in the last 12. The only thing that slowed them down was Kurt ramming them and Labonte finishing Brad off at Bristol.
If Brad comes out of Talladega with a 15 or 20 point lead over these 2, they will have a hard time catching him. JJ may start over driving and wrecking like he did last year, and Denny will be lost in Middle Earth searching for a new therapist.
