FIA TO GRANT FISICHELLA BRAZIL WIN

Italian Giancarlo Fisichella is set to be named as the winner of last Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix after the FIA admitted the result information given by the timekeepers may have been incorrect. The FIA said that stewards of the race will make a decision this coming Friday in a special meeting in Paris.

Wow, that would be big. I hear they're saying Fisichella had begun lap 56 before the red flag came out.

This is interesting:

Michael Schumacher has questioned the result of the Brazilian Grand Prix, saying the declared result should have been on half points and if not, Giancarlo Fisichella should have been the winner. The race was stopped officially on lap 55, the result taken on countback to lap 53. But full points can only be given if the race has run 75% of the full distance -- 75% would be on lap 54.

"One gets full points if three quarters of the distance is completed which would be 54 laps," Schumacher told German television. "55 laps were raced but two are deducted and based on this Raikkonen was declared the winner. If the FIA say that more laps were raced then they must declare Fisichella the winner. It will be interesting to see how they explain this."

This opinion bears much relevance to the FIA announcement today that they are investigating the result after receiving new information. It now seems Fisichella may have indeed been on his 56th lap when the race was stopped, in which case the countback would be to lap 54, when the Jordan driver was already in the lead.

An announcement is expected on Friday to clarify if Fisichella is the winner, or if McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen is still awarded the victory.

Has the FIA forgotten how to count laps and keep track of lap times?

LOL! Maybe they can co-sanction some events with NASCAR in the future.

Thats cool!! I do not know if the race went full distance if he had to pit again or not. If he was set to go the distance he would have won anyways. In those 2 laps he surpriseingly pulled away quite a bit from the Kimi.

well as far as i care, it doesn't really matter now. the win wont be special since Giancarlo didnt get the winning attention that Kimi did but he will win eventually and in the end, all I care about is that ferrari stays off the podium.

pefft!...and I thought my local supermarket wasn't well organised!!

How on earth can they just change it? Too much bloody power and don' know what to do with it...get a grip guys!

jordan sent telemetry tapes showing that he had indeed started another lap which would make him the leader two laps previous instead of kimi. we'll see what becomes of it tomorrow.

Giancarlo Fisichella was declared the winner today of the Brazilian Grand Prix. FIA ruled that Fisichella did start the 56 lap before the race was Red Flaged and under F-1 rules, that meant the race officially was stopped on lap 54, and Fisichella was leading at that point. Raikkonen was moved back to second and lost two points off of his points lead which is now at 24.

well good for fisichella, but better for jordan, maybe now they can rake in some big sponsership money and get back to winning ways.

wow, this is nutz! Congrats to Fisi, he earned it, turned out that he was in the perfect spot at the perfect time. Mclaren's Response shows their class with the call. Weber was so close with his crashed car stoping before the finish line, everyone who was on the same lap as Webber had in effect passed him in these last few metres and since they crossed the finish line and he didn't, he is therefore 1 lap down, that stinks for Webber. This is the FIA's results...

Pos Driver Team-Engine Tyres
1. Fisichella Jordan Ford (B)
2. Raikkonen McLaren Mercedes (M)
3. Alonso Renault (M)
4. Coulthard McLaren Mercedes (M)
5. Frentzen Sauber Petronas (B)
6. Villeneuve BAR Honda (B)
7. R.Schumacher Williams BMW (M)
8. Trulli Renault (M)
9. Webber Jaguar Cosworth (M)
10. da Matta Toyota (M)

haha, I didn't put two and two together as in I didn't think a B and a ) would make a B) So please take account that the B) is actually a B with a ) behind it.

Well I am happy for Fisi and I have always like Jordan, especially when Frentzen was there and won those four races in 1999. But now I am made at the results because Webber doesn't get any points for destroying that R4. I really had my hopes up for him after qualifying and then the race being in the rain, he had such a great setup friday. Looks like he will have to earn it this year. He is an awsome driver and has a great rookie team mate that will score points too, after he gets his jitters out. Still looking for Jag, Jordan, and Toyota to get the ball rolling by the end of the year and especially next year.
