Okay, maybe this has been covered before but here's my take on the first book. In my work, I listen to books on tape/cd through my mp3 player. Over the years I've read/listened to close to 300 books, mostly mystery/suspense novels. When the book "Fifty Shades of Grey" came out, I had not desire to read it and good thing too. I use my local library's digital book source for books and just for kicks, I checked out the number of people waiting to download the trilogy. The first book had five or six available for download and the waiting list was close to 200 people. The second and third books didn't have quite as many waiting but close. Two days ago, I looked again and the first book was available and I decided to see what it was all about. Of course I have heard all the comments before, "mommy porn", very tedious and more. My wife took a full year to read the book and she wasn't impressed. So I began to read/listen to the book three days ago. The book is said to be 17 hours long, so I knew it would take more than a couple of days on my route to hear it all. Yesterday I got to about 80% finished and decided to hang it up. I have to agree with my wife in that I become so frustrated with it that I finally gave up on it, though the wife did finish the book a year after she started it. I don't have a problem with the subject matter as it is intended for adults and to each his own. I wonder if anyone else here has read the book. It doesn't surprise me now though that the number of people wanting to read the book has faded to almost nothing. I ended up looking up the synopsis of the three books and without having read them, know and understand the ending.
