Final Phoenix TV Ratings: NASCAR on Fox tumbled to a 3.6/7 (6.0 million) on Saturday night for racing from Phoenix. Saturday's 3.6/7 is the lowest NASCAR rating ever on FOX, as well as an -18% decline compared to last year's 4.4/8. Sports competition was somewhat tougher on Saturday night than it was a year ago, as ESPN carried an NBA Playoff doubleheader. Last year's Phoenix race was run on April 12 and the NBA Playoffs had not yet begun. For the season-to-date, NASCAR is averaging a 5.6/11 (9.3 mill.) on FOX, down -13% compared to last year's 6.4/13 (10.6 mill.). Much has been written about NASCAR's ratings declines this year, but it's worth remembering that at a 5.6/11 NASCAR is still the #1 spring sport by a huge margin, and more than doubles the first-week average of the NBA Playoffs on ABC (2.7/7). Remember, that 9.3 million is not the total number. That's Nielsen's overall demographic number and it probably equals out to over 37.2 million viewers nationwide.

Jayski's site does not mention if this includes same day or next day ratings -- that would be your DVR ratings. I'm betting more people are recording the races and watching them later.

Another person tryng to protect Nascar? Give it up. Nascar ratings on T.V. were down big time, just like their attendance is. I am sure that the number of people who are recording races and viewing them is also down. Make all the excuses you want, but the handwriting is on the wall. This was the lowest rating EVER for Fox. Not just for a race, or for a year, but EVER.

Now if you want to sit around and make excuses, be my guest. They have no competition, unless you consider the 1st round of the NBA playoffs as competition. Nascar will get killed in Spetember when football starts. If they get their lowest rating with no competition, what will they do when they have to compete with the NFL? What will they do on Sunday, Oct 11th, with a race scheduled at boring Fontana? Are you telling me that the race will out draw the New England-Denver game that will air while the race is airing?

I keep telling you guys that Nascar has to make changes, and not the ones that they have been making of late. This problem started back in 2006, and has grown out of control. Sure the economy hurts, but this problem started well before the economy problems did. Now as far as I know, Fox is still a free T.V. station. It does not cost anyone to watch Fox. So why the lowest rating of all time?

TV ratings were up in 2008 until NASCAR hit the ESPN/ABC deal. Ratings on TNT were up in 2007. You fail.

First, prove that. Second, it does not matter. T.V. ratings have hit the bottom. Nascar has hit the bottom. End of statement. Either Nascar does something to correct their falling ratings and attendance, or they go back to being a regional sport. They are less popular than Baseball, Hoops, and Football in Southern California, and the Southern California market is the largest they have, now that they have failed in the Metropolitan New York Area.

Statistics are an awful lot like bikinis! They can be quite revealing but can also cover up some vital statistics...

I would be willing to bet more people today are watching NASCAR on TV than twenty years ago or even forty years ago.

T.V. ratings would be up if they would get the drivers out of the Stupid CART of tomorrow. Boring. Take that stupid wing off and the dang valence, take restictor plate out and let the race.

C'mon on over to Bowman Gray Stadium tomorrow night (Saturday) and you won't see any of those CART of tomorrows, wings or the like. It's time to get down and dirty for some great racing. Be there or be square!

Dam skippy! Support your local track, where the real racing is:beerbang:

I am originally from Statesville area, lived their for 20 something years, and never made it to Bowman Gray. Are they still racing there?

Why am I supposed to care how many other people watch or don't watch NASCAR on TV as long as I enjoy it? There's a whole new breed of race "fan" who get their kicks out of pissing and moaning about how "it ain't like it used to be" it seems.

I agree and have the same feeling! The thing I can't understand is why anyone would come to a forum like this one knowing it is full of optimists and lovers of the sport and try to feed us a sheet sandwich...
