We lost power Sunday night because of all the storms we had. They said the storms with wind up to 56 mph were from the hurricanes. The power wasn't restored until a little after 11pm Tuesday night . I know many people have it a whole lot worse than we did, but not having power for that long really sucks. My 14 year old son just about went completely insane without being able to use the computer or play video games. On the bright side, he actually went outside and found some neighborhood kids playing football and joined in. He met a really cute girl he wouldn't have met sitting in the house. I think he is seeing the connection there.

Good to be back :beerbang:

Welcome back. Hope you didn't have any damage, other than no lights.

And I share your son's feelings --- it was sure a good thing we had a generator. If I couldn't have contact with the outside world, MrTRL probably would have suffered. LOL

I've thought about getting a generator several times over the years, but I always seemed to find something else to spend the money on. The last time we lost power in this house it took 3 days to restore it and we lost a lot of meat and other frozen foods. A generator may have paid for itself that time. Then again, with the price of gas it may not save much at all.

If you have access to natural gas or propane, use that as a fuel instead of gasoline.

We have a gasoline generator, and I'm going to order a 6000 watt propane really soon.

I talked with my sister this evening who lives in Pearland (one of Houston's suburbs). Her power went out around 4pm on Friday, and she just got power back on sometime between midnite and 1am this morning. She was pretty lucky in that she has some roof damage (mostly missing shingles) but not broken glass or water damage.

Hmmm.... interesting that we had the same power issues up here in Western NY. We didn't lose ours, but I talked to my daughter last night and she said they lost theirs Sunday night. Her husband is a volunteer firefighter so he was out on calls all night and then they had to go to work. They watched a transformer blow up and a tree catch fire right across the street. Good thing they live right down the street from his firehouse. He was up and out right after that happened. She said his mother came over and got their food out of their fridge and freezer since they had just shopped on Sunday. Son-in-law came home with a generator since that's the 2nd time they've lost power this year and have been without it for 2-3 days. It's a small one, but big enough to run the furnace, fridge and some lights. Maybe they should have moved closer to HER parents instead of his, since we didn't lose power at all. ;):D
