Finch offers Bobby Labonte a Daytona Ride

Yahoo , great for Bobby . He'll do fine if he can hook up with a drafting partner . So sad for the forum members who would prefer a sixteen year old snotty nosed kid . Maybe next year .:D

As long as he can be fast enough in qualifying to make the show and get through the duels without harm. Does his championship provisional still work?

It's a little disturbing to see what has become of Bobby Labonte. I remember when it seemed like he couldn't be beat at Atlanta. Even after they reconfigured the track he was still the man to beat there.

I'd like to see him get a solid ride, but the chances of that don't seem to be very good.

Good luck to him.

Yep. It's not like the entry list is going to be much larger than 45 or so anyways, though.

Disturbing? He's old. He's gunna fall off and plus he got booted from JGR and hasn't had a big time ride since. It was predictable for me. Wish he would have retired a few seasons after JGR instead of embarrassing himself.

Very glad to hear. He'll have a shot at a solid finish. Finch's cars always do well at the plate tracks

Damn that Finch is one cool cat, looking for one more shot at glory. Good luck to him and Bobby if he takes the ride. I just can't help but root for a guy like Finch, he's a true racer.

it should as long as a new champ doesn't need it. so I am not sure what champions if any are guaranteed a spot. I don't think Kurt Busch is.

My point is he pretty much hit the skid row of the Cup series shortly after leaving JGR. That was a long time ago.

To see him go from one of the best in the Cup series, to struggling to compete with underfunded teams, now struggling just to keep a foot in the door of the Cup series is sad.

Still one of the top 43 in the world though.:)

Dumbest thing Labonte ever did was choosing to leave JGR.
I can't remember properly but I thought he was kicked out, even though he wasn't underperforming, because mr. Hendrick let Kyle go and Gibbs wanted the youngster?

Ah. I just remember that really close Charlotte race against Jimmie then he was gone. I was like "wtf". Well, half the job is getting along with people.

Bobby left JGR before Kyle left Hendrick, remember J.J. Yeley spent a couple seasons behind the wheel of #18 before Kyle took over...

I'm not sure how people can say he wasn't underperforming. His last good season was in 2003. He steadily stopped performing after his 2000 championship.

I knew it was over for B-Lab as soon as he signed on to drive the 43 Petty Enterprise... I would love to see him in some solid RP equipment though.

I believe that he didn't like playing second fiddle to Tony. JMO

I don't think it was Tony as much as JD Gibbs. That was when Joe left to go coach the redskins again. JD was the day to day guy after that. I don't think Bobby and JD got along. If Joe never left I think Bobby would have stuck it out for a few more years. Tony and Bobby's relationship never strained much. Even when Bobby won at Talladega in 2007 for KHI he did so by passing Tony in the dog leg. Tony got out of his car with a huge smile saying that if he was going to happily lose to anyone it would be Bobby Labonte.

Refresh my memory , didn't Fatback McSwain leave JGR unexpectedly too ? I think there was bad blood afterward between him and JGR.

as much class as gibbs has and especially after so much success, isn't the more likely story that bobby was not asked to renew his contract OR outright let go. but to the public it was that bobby chose to leave, that way he leaves with dignity. I think thats what happened. and if you remember bobby wasn't running well the last few years he was in gibbs cars. I think putting him in a phoenix racing plate car does make alot of sense. this is a race anyone could win.

Hand me down old Hendrick equipment, but i guess anything can happen at Daytona.

NASCAR worked the phones regularily last year to get 43 cars every week and Bobby is likely the 43rd car for Daytona. The Finch car is not hand me down equipment. As usual, Phoenix Racing will show up in February with a new top notch car, though possibly minus a few expensive trix it will have the same engine all Hendrick powered cars have. Mr. H does not allow his name to be put on anything 2nd rate, the engines all have the Hendrick name on them,.
