Eury Sr. fined $2,500 for an approved windshield: Tony Eury Sr., crew
chief for the No. 8 Chevrolet of driver Dale Earnhardt Jr., was fined
$2,500 for violating Section 12-4-A (Actions detrimental to stock car
racing) and 12-4-Q (Any determination by NASCAR Officials that the car,
car parts, components and/or equipment used in the Event do not conform to
NASCAR rules) for having a windshield on the car that was not an approved
part and also did not meet the minimum required thickness of one-quarter
inch. The infraction was discovered by NASCAR officials during opening-day
inspection.

Harvick and Kahne were fined $10,000 : Drivers Kevin Harvick and Kasey
Kahne were fined $10,000 each and placed on probation for their actions
during an on-track incident that occurred after the conclusion of Sunday's
Nextel Cup Series race at Phoenix. They were penalized for violating
Section 12-4-A (Actions detrimental to stock car racing) of the NASCAR
Nextel Cup Series Rule Book when the two made deliberate contact with each
other following the conclusion of the race. Both drivers' probation
periods will extend to Nov. 30.
 
I have a question about infractions discovered by NASCAR officials during opening-day inspection. The officials found it during that initial inspection, now do they just make a note and allow the car to compete with the illegal part still on it? Or do they make the team replace it with a part that is legal? I'm pretty sure, it's the latter...........at least common sense would say that is so anyway. Maybe TonyB or boB can answer that..........or anyone else who might know.
 
I would assume they make the team park it until the problem is fixed, unless your Stewart or McMurray and they just seize your car.

I've heard they set up a display of all the illegal parts so everyone can see....just as a reminder for the teams not to do it.
 
That's what I had heard too........but it brings up another question which is off topic. Maybe I should start another thread...........it might get interesting with one of our new members!! :lol2:
 
I seem to remember that infractions during inspection pre-race were allowed to be corrected at some point, but the driver had to start at the back of the field......or was that just "The Good Old Days"?
 
Depends on when the infraction was discovered........the initial inspection when the teams arrive at the track would be before any practice, qualifying or anything else. I think if they correct the problem before they do anything on the track with the car they are just subject to the fines and penalties at a later time. If, say, they qualify and then an infraction is found during the pre-race inspection they are subject to being placed at the back of pack. And "Days of Thunder" was a good movie.........but it was just a movie!! :)
 
The way I understand it is that the infraction must be fixed if discovered period. If it's an uanpproved jack bolt, then you take off the unapproved jack bolt and put an approved one on.

I've never heard of an "start at the back" penalty for an inspection infraction. There have been a few times where a team failed to clear inspection and therefore missed the start of the race or failed to have the car on the grid on time and started at the rear of the field, but it wasn't a specific penalty for a spefici infraction just the logistics of being late.

Now penalties for post-qualifying and post-race inspection are a different beast altogether.
