Busch Series crew chiefs fined for violations at Gateway
The Wire

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida -NASCAR announced on Wednesday fined two Busch series crew chiefs for rules violations at Gateway International Raceway.

Doug Chouinard, crew chief of the No. 03 Toyota driven by Todd Bodine, and Chuck Meyers, crew chief of the No. 1 Chevrolet driven by J.J. Yeley were penalized for infractions that were discovered during opening day inspection on Saturday.

Chouinard was fined $5,000 for violating Sections 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing), 12-4-Q (car, car parts, components and/or equipment used that do not conform to NASCAR rules) and 20A-5.10.1B(6) (thickness of the throttle shaft and throttle plate was less than 0.197 inch) of the 2007 NASCAR Busch Series Rule Book.

Meyers was fined $500 for violating Sections 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing), 12-4-Q (car, car parts, components and/or equipment used that do not conform to NASCAR rules) and 20A-16.1C (fuel cell foam not used as provided by the manufacturer; open areas cut out of foam).

i'm wanting to know what kind of advantage something under .197 would have vs .197? I mean a handful of thousanths of an inch can't mean tooooo much?!

Ahh! The old skinny shaft again.

I understand that the smaller shaft would allow AIR to enter around the shaft. Causing the engine to have extra mixture to run on... Effectively making the carburetor larger than the other cars. Any extra air would give an edge to the racer.
Betsy:rolleyes:

but a handful of thousanths can't make that big of a difference in the amount of air coming in. Now if there were a few hundreths or if it was complately off, say .128, then i would understand. But they dont say how far off it was so who knows. And the second fine should have had points attached, that's a safety issue.

It doesn't matter how far it was off. There has to be a cut off number somewhere & anything beyond that is illegal. If it was off, there should be a fine whether it's .001 or .100.
