The wife has been watching this for some time now, but tonight was the first time I saw this program on A&E. I tuned in at 8:00 and watched two full hours of this show with the final hour devoted to just one case, the Lester Street murders in Memphis. It's amazing to see who the real life detectives work to try and solve a case, and this case involved the murder of 6 people, 4 adults and two children, and three other children who survived. The leads first led the police to a gang, then to the mafia, then back to the gang, but when the oldest surviving child was able to talk, he identified the killer as his own uncle, an ex-con who had just been released from prison on another murder charge. In the end, the mother of the killer and one of the victims actually hugged her son and told him that she loved him, even though the man killed one of her sons but two of her grandchildren and severely injuring three more of her grandchildren. I guess I just will never fully understand motherhood. :(

I watch that show from time to time. I also watch a few others that are a lot like it. I watch FBI Files and some others, mostly on "ID" channel. It is a newer channel devoted almost exclusively to true crime type stuff. Lots of good stuff on there. Another show I like is Notorious on the Biography Channel. It is mostly about serial killers and how they got caught. I find it fascinating how these people get away with their crimes for so long and then they finally get caught by cops who just won't stop. Sometimes it's a busted taillight that gets them pulled over and they find a body in the back of the vehicle, sometimes it is a clever job of investigating. Sometimes they even get away with it forever, like the Zodiak Killer. But it is always interesting to see the story develop over time.
