We still haven't come up with a job title. Recepitineer?

50 mile each way commute sucks a little...but I work in a shop with a bunch of big boys' (and girls') toys...and get to sit around doing a bit of nothing every now and then.

First month is going to be getting the owner's organized chaos mixed in with my organized chaos, in hopes that we might actually be able to find things eventually, while I work the email/phone/front desk and get the computer and camera systems set up (got the security cameras operational today). Then I'll start working as the social media manager and doing sponsor and company promos and things like that.

@BobbyFord Head over to Barstow in a couple weeks- one of vehicles from the shop will be there for the Ultra4 King of the Hammer race.

so today i mapped out the wired network, set the boss up with a computer with 2 monitors, got the CCTV's internet feed working, and got the feature webcam working in a testing position. Wrote a handful of work orders and estimates, and got a display moved in. The shop crew also got the last bits of stuff moved over from the old shop. The campus is a complete mess right now, but that's okay.

Any pics to share? Photo documentation at this time in the process can have an unexpected value later on when you need to refresh your memory on details.
snapped this today. LS 427 and it sounds mean as hell. Almost doesn't fit through the shop door.

Got the CCTV remote head hooked up, found out that USB doesn't work over 50 feet (oh well) but the video works just fine. My pet projects are pretty much already done here in the first week, but that won't last long. Already have a few more planned out. Would like to get some more displays in and get some furniture made by end of next week.

That thing is sweet!

I know it might look small in the photo...

Well that might be because the shop owner's peterbilt is parked behind it...or not.

Yea this is over Cat5, I don't have a provision for a signal booster in the middle. It's for the USB mouse for the camera display. We may leave it off, if he sees something he needs to look at closer he can go in the shop. All the mouse does is select one camera for full screen instead of 9-up

If you're already over Cat5 then you already have your doohickeys in place ... you just need to replace them with better ones. http://www.tripplite.com/usb-2.0-ov...er-high-speed-usb-330-ft-100m-1-port~B203101/ this one doesn't even need external power.
not quite. those usually convert to differential communications over all 8 wires. I'm using 4 for USB, 2 for composite video, and 2 for auxiliary/later use. So that wont quite work. Like i said, it's just for a mouse, so it's not really necessary, a nice to have.
