floor refinishing

Well all, I've finally taken the drastic step of ripping out the rest of the carpet from my house. If anyone recalls I did the room that the cats (which I no longer have) took the liberty of using as a litterbox last summer...I had to redo the baseboards and everything...the floor had been painted green, so I had to sand that crap off before I could even sand the floor.
But, the rest of the house (save the bedrooms) has nice UNPAINTED hardwood and my Unce came and patchworked the floor vent hole for my birthday (looks excellent) so I'm starting tonight on the hallway, it should be done (i hope by thursday night/friday morning) soon. The rest of the house..well, that's another story. Had I a digital camera, i'd post some pics.

Best of luck on your home improvement project, axl. Been doing a little home improving at mine, but not the floors. I did that a couple years ago when we laid laminate wood flooring down. Took the entire weekend to do, but it made a huge difference in the room. Again, good luck! :)

Wow, that's a job that will repay you for a long, long time. Easier tp clean too! I wish you the best!

okay, final sanding done on the hallway...which is the extent of this sessions refinishing activities...eyes dusty, throat dusty, nose dusty...feel like I have emphysema. however, showered off, and getting ready to stain half of the hallway...then, when its time for bed, i'll stain myself into my room.

what kind of sander did you use, belt or rotating? we used a rotating sander and had very little dust. it took longer than one of the old fashion belts but a lot less dust

well, the funny thing is, when I did the whole room, i was painted green, and I used the 5 inch orbital...it took forever, but it was because of the paint. So, I borrowed my parents' belt sander...it was terrible. I tried to use it and it barely did anything, kicked up crazy dust, the belts wore out too quick and it screamed like a banshee...so I went back to the orbital, which, on an unpainted floor, doesn't take too long. The belt sander is fine for the finer grit sandings, but for the rough cut, use the orbital. It's dry enough now, so I guess I'm going in for the clear coat.

okay, the hole my uncle filled in is staining differently than the rest...I mixed some dark with the stuff I'm using, it blended okay. I have one coat of urethane on it now, two more to go.

That stuff smells so bad that finnisher. I had to live at the hotel for a few days when my house had that done.

i was pretty high off of it earlier...driving was a bit flighty...but, I have two coats, getting ready for the third...i'm gonna go for a 4th.

3 10 Am, 4 coats done and dry...will sand with steel wool when i wake up. looks good.
