Fontana changes?

Greg Biffle tested at Texas World Speedway in College Station and supposedly hit 218 mph. That's on a track with 20* of banking in the corners and very old pavement on the straightaways. They'd have to put restrictor plates on the cars if they went to 23* of banking.

Not sure if adding banking is the answer. Michigan's got 18* and it's still boring as hell.

Flatten ACS and turn it in to a short track or road course.

There was speculation that it would become a plate track.
I corresponded with Gillian Zucker last year about what they were going to do to improve the racing. At the time she said it would be too expensive to increase the banking. I can't imagine them doing it now with the current economic situation.

I've heard this California song and dance for six years now.

Face it folks -- NASCAR will always race at sucky Fontana twice a year and the races will always be boring as hell. :( If NASCAR hasn't changed it by now, they never will.

It seems like the non-boring races are getting far and few between.

The truth is, we all piss and whine about the boring races on TV this year but I can honestly say that I've never attended a boring race.
The drive to the track with friends, the tailgaiting, the camaraderie with the other race fans, watching qualifying, practice and the races live, just the whole weekend experience, to me, is great.

Don't include everyone on the boring comment. Some races may not be presented as well as others but racing is racing. I couldn't agree more about the comment on attending a race. Add camping in there and you've said it perfectly. :beerbang:

Actually going to a race is a blast.

I can honestly say, though, that at times I've almost fallen asleep in the stands --- the very first race at Homestead comes to mind. That day, the most exciting thing was BigE playing bumper tag with the pace car.

Wasn't boring if you were from South Florida and it was your first Cup race.

I've fallen asleep at Dover a few times, and Richmond can be boring as hell as well.

You know, they could do something with the race to bring in some local flavor, like prepare 150 cars to race behind the cars with a couple of paparazzi's hanging out of each one or make a road course where they avoid starlets attempting to drive their Mercedes and Bentleys.

You gotta be kidding me..... falling asleep at the races. You can't keep entertained enough to stay awake?

I've been to the Sprint All Star races, those were fun. I've only been to 1 Cocoa Cola 600, it was ok.

Yes, yes, yes, going to the races is very fun, but its much like hockey in that there is a world of difference watching it in person than on TV. We've been to many races and have tailgated, shopped the souvenir haulers, and had loads of fun with others at the track. Even watching the race in person is much better with the exception of Daytona and I imagine Taladega, but even that was at least an experience that I'd never trade.

I think that what we have here is a failure to...no wait, that is from something else...I think that we have become so used to what we see on TV that unless there is something that is wildly exciting, like actual racing, we get bored. The problem is that if you see the race in person, you can see many mini races within the race and that can be exciting. But TV will only cover the leaders and Dale Jr.

I think we all agree that the Race weekend, or just raceday at the track is the best way to take in a race. I used to love the excitement of the 2 hour drive to the sandhills of N.C. to take in a race at "The Rock". Ice cold beverages and a bucket of chicken with bisquits, freshly boiled peanuts, walking around the track because you parked on the wrong side, and seeing the people. Way before all the hip folks started to come to races with their take out Chinease food and Wine in a box (Actually witnessed that at Wilkesboro of all places). The National anthem and sky divers, the big rig at Talledega haulin ass around the track with the big American flag, and the first sounds and smells when the racecars get warmed up on their pace laps. I wished I still had the money and the time to take in the races.
The racing on T.V. used to be exciting. I remember people talkin down racing and how they would sleep through a race on T.V. Not me, I watched Flag to Flag and hung in there every lap.

Buck says it's cool to be at the race, and watch the races within the race. He is true on that. You can watch the drivers moving up, backing down, see the tire rubs well before the T.V. can catch them. If there was some way for the T.V. to capture those things instead of watching Jimmie and Junior all the time, the coverage would get a lot better. Get rid of the stupid cartoons and gimmicks, 2 hour pre-race shows, and get some good announcers.

Well I kind of went off on a different subject.

Whoops, double post...

I think it would be cool if our scanners worked at home, too.

Another act of common thievery from Turner...

Perhaps, but it's worth every penny in my book. I like being able to listen to the drivers while watching the race. Most people wouldn't think twice to spend that kind of money at the track for a Fan Scan or jut to rent a scanner for the weekend. If it were available somewhere else or for a cheaper price, I'd go for that but it's not that I am aware of. I have the top package that gives me all of the stats. It costs me less than a single ticket to just about any track on the circuit.

Yea but it only works half the time.Or at least that's what it did for me when I tried it for 2 years.

I've never had any issues with it but I'm sure some people have. I understand it's not for everyone but it is a nice addition to the race broadcast.

I watched the original Pepsi 400, or a I like to call the Firecracker 400 a couple of years back when they gave a free preview of the All access to 5 drivers. I don't know if they still do it anymore, but they followed 5 drivers, had them on seperate Direct T.V. channels, had their own commentator, cameras following them and scanners communications. I thought it was rather cool idea, so much that for a little bit during some cautions and long green time periods, that's all I followed. I would not pay what they wanted for it all year, but I enjoyed the free Preview.

DirecTV has it for free. Instead of commentators, it's just a video feed, telemetry, radio communications and the MRN race feed.
