DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- NASCAR announced Tuesday that four penalties have been issued to two Busch Series teams, as a result of rules violations this past weekend at California Speedway.

Three penalties were assessed to the No. 17 Ford team for violations of Sections 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing), 12-4-Q (car, car parts, components and/or equipment that do not conform to NASCAR rules), and 20A-12.1B (2) (unapproved rear jacking bolts, incorrect thread count) of the 2006 Busch Series Rule Book.

Crew chief Chad Norris was fined $10,000; driver Matt Kenseth was penalized with the loss of 25 driver championship points; and car owner Jack Roush was penalized 25 owner championship points. These rules violations were discovered during opening day inspection.

Dave Fuge Jr., crew chief for the No. 34 Chevrolet driven by Todd Bodine, has been fined $2,500 for violating Sections 12-4-A, 12-4-Q, and 12-4-CC (unapproved rear end gear ratio). These violations were also discovered during opening day inspection.
 
Take the race win away....it's the only way to stop this cheating crap. I feel cheated as a fan where hearing about this on Tuesday. As I read it the infractions where found on Friday or Saturday? So, yes I guess the car was corrected but...why let a car race on Sunday? Send them home. JMO.

The penalties were in the Busch series, not Cup.
 
So it doesn't mean the same if cheating takes place in the Busch Series ????

When a violation is found in pre-qualifing or post-qualifing inspection, the system is fine the way it is. A fine and reduction in points. Let them race.
If the violation is found in post-race inspection, different story and the penalty must be severe even if it means taking the win. This will get someones attention and the b.s. will stop or at least not be so egregious.

Oh yes, the same penalty should apply to ALL NASCAR racing series, meaning each one is important, as they should be.

redrock was saying take away Kenseth's win. The win was in Cup, the rules violation was in the Busch series.

That's where I see there could be problems. If a car passes inspection before qualifying and again before racing but fails the post-race inspection doesn't that point to a different set of problems. Maybe the team shouldn't get a free pass but unless NASCAR can show that the violation occurred during the race then IMO it's their bad not the team's. The inspectors already had several cracks at discovering violations. They have the time. So is it incompetence or a "pat and a wink"?
