I've always thought there should be a Sports Section on this site...
Anyway, I'm sure there are many football fans here. I actually prefer NCAA football to the NFL but it is very exciting to see pre-season NFL games on TV. It means the real deal is coming soon! Any early Superbowl or BCS Championship Game picks??

Well unless the Chargers find an OL somewhere I don't see them going far. I think they may find that firing Marty was a mistake from a clash of egos.
As to the BCS, while I don't support a playoff I also don't know that the Boise States belong in the big bowls. They don't play anyone of significance and until the midMajors step up their scheduling and play the BCS teams in the regular season they shouldn't be included.

I ain't going to get all technical. I am going to go with my heart.

BCS - Tennessee Volunteers

Super Bowl - Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts

I love football !!

Thats why I bought my new Samsung 50" DLP TV this year. Hi-Def!

Oh, and for the record, I am a Miami Dolphins fan..:)

Well The Patriots are the team this year, with their off season trades a draft they should make the Superbowl. I hope so, because i was living in CO. when they won their Superbowls. Now if the Red Sox don't fold it will be a perfect Fall.:)

How do you like that DLP. My sister has a 60" Sony and the view angle isn't the best. If you are way off to the side ( Picture gets darker). Where as my Plasma you can see is perfect from all angles.

I love the TV. Yes, its true that at far angles, the picture gets worse but I couldnt afford a plasma the size I have. Plus plasma has burn-in issues that a DLP doesnt.

The burn in issues have pretty much ben resolved. Most Plasmas have a "Screen Wipe" in the menu that I run just to be sure.

And the Plasma is actually less expensive.......and......they also work nice for watching Nascar. :)

I've read that DLP handles motion better than Plasma. That you don't get the blurred lines.

St. Louis Rams

and college i have a few teams. Bama, Ol' Miss, Razerbacks, Hilltopers, Racers. I am pretty much Anti-UK.

I pick USC to win the BCS although I am not a fan of theirs.

I am actually an Ohio State Buckeye fan. I am juiced about the season, but I don't expect too much from them. They simply lost too many underclassmen, and of course the seniors, to the NFL. I also like Florida State, but they don't look too great this year either.

In the NFL, I think the Colts have every chance in the world to repeat as champs. They lost some key players in the off-season and the Patriots did get stronger with Randy Moss, etc. But, I think they can get it done and I would like to see them do it.

I am a Browns fan, so the start of this NFL season doesn't exactly send me dancing naked into the streets. They have gotten much better over the winter with an excellent draft. They finally addressed their offensive line in a meaningful way by taking Joe Thomas with the third overall pick in the draft and signing free-agent guard Eric Steinbach. I really like the cornerback they picked up in the second round. Brady Quinn was a nice get that late in the first round, but he is at least a year away from doing anything meaningful, if then. Holding out of training camp was the worst thing he could have done for his development. But then, he had to think about the financial ramifications in years 4 & 5 of the deal. I don't know if he will ever be as good as some people think he will be, but he seems to have more talent than any QB we have had here since Bernie Kosar.

NFL officially begins tonight, Colts at Saints :bounce:
hope everyone is enjoying the game!

Wow, Reggie Bush was electrifying last night !!! 2.8 yds per touch !! The colts look like they're ready to repeat. No top 25 college teams impressed me much this first week. Hard to make any predictions til about week 4. One things for sure, though...them frogs are getting squashed tommorrow.

 OH MY! Michigan! a huge loss again!

(shhh! let's not talk about Miami losing 51-13:eek:)

Ah, can I say that it was the OU Sooners who put the whooping on those "U" boys?

Let's be honest here if we can. I've always been terrified of this game ever since before Vinnie. I don't remember any wins for OU, but I remember with tears those wins that Hurricanes put on the Sooners. Now I'm just afraid of Boise State. :)

As for Michigan, can we now call them Puppy Dogs instead of Wolverines?

I watched a good number of those games from the Orange Bowl...wishing for those days back right about now...;)

Oh how I wish that I could forget those days. Maybe these days will help me to forget. :)

Miami could very well be in the same type of down turn that OU was in the late 90's. The school was going through a lot of problems between the sports programs and the regents of the school. Barry Switzer was not a particular favorite of some of those regents and yet he was totally popular in the football circles. Eventually, he lost out, but now days, with new regents at the school, Barry is a big celebrity and for good reason. I just don't know why he could never get Miami's number, or maybe it was because Miami, at those times, was very eager to become a powerhouse and knocking down OU was a very big step.

Miami just isn't the same anymore. I would be surprised if they beat aggy. Although, Fresno st practically did...so there's hope. Tell Randy...aggy QB can't throw over 8 yards...stop the option & you win easily.

Bills' Everett has surgery after showing no sign of movement
Associated Press

Updated: September 9, 2007, 9:55 PM ET

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Kevin Everett had surgery Sunday evening, hours after the Buffalo Bills reserve tight end showed no signs of movement after sustaining a severe neck injury in the team's season opener against Denver.

Bills spokesman Scott Berchtold said he was informed by the team's medical staff the player went into surgery at a Buffalo hospital at about 8 p.m. Berchtold said he had no further information, and didn't know whether Everett had shown any signs of movement since he was driven off the field in an ambulance.

General manager Marv Levy said doctors informed the team that it's too early to determine the severity of the injury and that they will know more after monitoring the player overnight.

"Certainly, we feel the injury is serious, but I don't want to speculate, and that's what the doctors told us," Levy told The Associated Press. "They told us to wait to hear from them before making any speculative announcement."

Coach Dick Jauron said immediately following the game that the player sustained a cervical spine injury, but wouldn't discuss the severity of the injury.

The player's agent Brian Overstreet was not immediately available for comment.

Everett fell immediately to the ground and showed no signs of consciousness after a helmet-to-helmet hit when he tackled Denver's Domenik Hixon during a kickoff to open the second half. Everett was placed on a backboard with his head and body immobilized, and carefully loaded into an ambulance at the Broncos 30.

The game was delayed for about 15 minutes, and the Bills gathered at the sideline while doctors attended to the player.

Thank God!!

Report: Doctor says Everett has voluntary movement of arms, legs

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
ESPN.com news services

Kevin Everett might walk again after all.

The doctor who performed the spinal surgery on Everett told Buffalo TV station WIVB on Tuesday that Everett has voluntary movement of his arms and legs and as a result he is optimistic that Everett will walk again.

Dr. Andrew Cappuccino told WIVB that Everett's sedation levels were lowered on Tuesday, allowing him to respond to verbal commands. WIVB also reported that Everett's latest MRI shows only a small amount of swelling on his spinal cord.

On Monday, Cappuccino said that Everett sustained a "catastrophic" and life-threatening spinal-cord injury and was unlikely to walk again.

"A best-case scenario is full recovery, but not likely," Cappuccino said Monday. "I believe there will be some permanent neurologic deficit."

Everett was hurt Sunday after he ducked his head while tackling the Denver Broncos' Domenik Hixon during the second-half kickoff. Everett dropped face-first to the ground after his helmet hit Hixon high on the left shoulder and side of the helmet.

On Monday, Cappuccino noted the 25-year-old reserve tight end did have touch sensation throughout his body and also showed signs of movement. But he cautioned that Everett's injury was life-threatening because he was still susceptible to blood clots, infection and breathing failure.

Everett is in the intensive care unit of Buffalo's Millard Fillmore Gates Hospital, where he is under sedation and breathing through a respirator as doctors wait for the swelling to lessen.

Cappuccino repaired a break between the third and fourth vertebrae and also alleviated the pressure on the spinal cord. In reconstructing his spine, doctors made a bone graft and inserted a plate, held in by four screws, and also inserted two small rods, held in place by another four screws.

Doctors, however, weren't able to repair all the damage.

Bills punter Brian Moorman immediately feared the worst when Everett showed no signs of movement as he was placed on a backboard and, with his head and body immobilized, carefully loaded into an ambulance.

"It brought tears to my eyes," Moorman said after practice. He said the sight of Everett's motionless body brought back memories of Mike Utley, the former Detroit Lions guard, who was paralyzed below the chest after injuring his neck in a collision during a 1991 game.

Utley, Moorman recalled, at least was able to give what's become a famous "thumbs up" sign as he was taken off the field. Everett didn't.

"That's what I was waiting for, and that's what everybody else was waiting for," Moorman said. "And to have to walk back to the sideline and not see that made for a tough time."

Utley, who lives in Washington state, was saddened to see replays of Everett's collision.

"I'm sorry this young man got hurt," Utley said. "It wasn't a cheap shot. It was a great form tackle and that's it."

Cappuccino received permission to operate from Everett's mother, Patricia Dugas, who spoke by phone from her home in Houston. She and other family members arrived in Buffalo on Monday. Everett was born in Port Arthur, Texas, and played high school football there.

Buffalo's 2005 third-round draft pick out of Miami, Everett missed his rookie season because of a knee injury. He spent most of last year playing special teams. He was hoping to make an impact as a receiver.

A horrible situation for him. I hope it does come through that he is able to walk again. :(

Go Green Bay Packers too by the way. ;P

The Browns are even worse than I thought they would be. They got spanked by the Steelers 34-7 at home. They traded their starting quarterback today for an undisclosed draft pick (and a pack of gum I believe). Charlie Frye won the starting job in training camp over Derek Anderson. He started the season opener against Pittsburgh but looked so bad they pulled him in the second quarter. After giving him a quarter and a half to show himself it makes the whole training camp "competition" seem like an even bigger farse than when the head coach announced that they chose the starter for one of the preseason games with a coin flip. The biggest problem is that Anderson is a worse quarterback than Frye is. He has a really strong arm, but can not read defenses and throws way too many interceptions in critical situations.

I'd kind of like to see them start Brady Quinn and give him a chance to learn on the job. I don't think he gives them a much better chance to win immediately, but at least he would get much needed experience. Troy Aikman started in his rookie year for a really bad (1-15) Cowboys team and he ended up in the Hall of Fame. I'm not saying Quinn has that potential, but if it worked for Troy, why not give Brady the same chance?

Brady Quinn should be the starting QB for the Browns, simply because he gives them great upside to win; to learn now and work towards the future.
