How long does it take for you dial ups to load a tipical page here on the forum? I'm sure the ones with pictures take a bit longer and I'm sorry if I contribute to that too often. I do try to make the pictures no bigger than 400 x 400 pixels. I just see so many people who are on line and nothing is being written. Are you all just reading, or does it take a long time just to change a page? Just wondering. Feeble minds want to know! :D

I don't have any problem with my dial up. Text usually loads in 30 sec. Pictures can take up to a minute or more depending on size. But, since I can't afford a cable connection, this will have to do.

hey buck. it usually depends on the amount of "traffic" online as to how long things take to load. I can get a forum page to load in 2-3 seconds or up to 30 seconds. A page with pics 10-20 secs up to 1 min.

Usually 2-5 secs for text only (including avatars), but if there are a LOT of pics it takes longer and the # of responses to a thread also makes a difference, as well as how many are replying at the same time. How many times have you seen posts or responses with the same post time? No worries here, mate

I tend not to post lots of pics in every post. Especially constant posting of animated images, those put a whooping on page load times.

You can turn all that stuff off in your options though, so that no images load or anything else.

If you are using Windows and the pages start loading slowly after some time on the forum, try doing a disk cleanup. Start menu, programs, accessories, system tools, disk cleanup. I've found that helps a lot. That applies to whatever connection you are using.:)

Buck- I'd say it takes 30 secs at the most. I only have dial-up, because the roommate has cable. So I'm on cable if its open. I don't see any sense in paying for cable on both. :)

DEW's tip is good for your computer's speed for things like accessing files, moving around in your folders and stuff, though it doesn't have an effect on your modem.

If the pages are slow, turn off some of the options in your profile here at the board and things should speed up.

Give the disk cleanup a try anyway.:) Make sure the box for "temporary internet files" is checked (that does not delete cookies)..........I've found as much as 20 megs of temp internet files after about 30 mins on the forum. I do a lot of refreshes so maybe that racks up the caching, but it does help.

I have a cable modem and pages load as fast as 1 to 3 seconds and sometimes about a minute. Most of the variance is due to internet traffic. I'm talking about reloading the same page.

I hate dial up. Before we moved we had powerlink. They were suppose to have it up and running at the new house by the time we moved but parts are on back order and the weather has sucked. So now they are saying the middle of Feb. I hate dial up and as I am sure all have noticed spend very little time online now. It takes forever for anything to load and freezes up all the time. UGHHHH give me my powerlink back.
