Ford Focus or Honda Civic?

another vote for hyundai. every time we have our santa fe serviced the dealer wants us to trade up. no way, runs great and no car payments.

My folks bought a Sonata last year and they love it. Andy, I know the perfect car for you. See if you can find a Yugo. That should work very well for you.

How about a mazda? If you blow up that motor, I think Mazda would give you money for being the first to do so. Except the mazdaspeed 6, they use a traditional V motor.

The Snot-a is a great car!

Daughter had one until some stupid little teeny girl ran into the back of her last year and totaled it.

Never heard a bad word about this model car. The Koreans are giving the Japanese a run for their money.

We've got a 2003 Honda Civic that just turned over 200,000 miles this morning on my wife's morning commute. It's served us well so far.

My wife just sent me this pic from the ride into work this morning. Honda Odom pic.....

My friend just spun 500K on his 90 something Bronco. Same engine, tranny and rear end. He did change the radiator twice, and the AC is long dead, but he still commutes 130 a day with it.

I hope to get one or two more years out of this Honda and then it's time for an upgrade. My wife was a hospice nurse and put on most of the miles early on in that cars life. Now, it travels 80-90 miles per day to/from work. That's not bad at all for a little 4 banger. Gets great gas mileage and that's huge plus in today's economy.

Speaking of the Korean cars, my brother and his wife both have Kias. He was working in Boston and needed a small car due to parking. Not my choice but they both seem to like them. 32+ mpg in Boston traffic isn't bad at all.

Kia is owned by Hyundai. If you are interested in visionaries who achieve global success, read up on Chung Ju-yung.

I had a Kia Spectra, it was actually a pretty good little car, and yep, they are Hyundai owned but owe a lot of styling cues to Ford---or at least they did early on. Mine looked like a little miniature Ford Taurus sort of.

All things being close to equal, I'd prefer to by a vehicle that is made, at least mostly, in America. I would prefer an american car, made by an american owned company, and made in america. However, those don't exist anymore. A large number of foreign car companies have their cars, assembled at least, in America. I'd rather pay a foreign company to pay american workers to build their cars than to pay an american company to pay foreigners to make their cars.

Does that make sense to you?

Hyundai. Hmm, doesn't sound like an American corporation. Ford, yup he was born here. Money for Hyundai purchases eventually makes it's way to Korea.

Try going to a car rental place, and rent each. Drive them around, and see which one you like best. I don't know where you could rent the Honda, but Focuses (Focii?) can be found at most.

This might not be a bad idea. Then you can b!tch at the car rental guy, not us! :p

One thing to look for on the newer Asian cars is the tire size. This burned my brother. He put a size bigger/smaller on because of cost of the weird size originals. Of course it messed up his speedo but really messed up the ABS. It was on the Suzuki "car" he had. IIRC

Andy needs to pull the trigger. I've never taken more than 48 hours to make the deal.

Maybe he needs to buy a van like his dads.Since it seems he hasn't knocked the wheels off it YET.:D
