Ford officials are none too pleased with the apparent loss of Dale Jarrett, who will announce his decision to join Michael Waltrip Racing later this weekend (live on SPEED, Saturday at 12:00pm/et). All but two of Jarrett's 32 career Cup wins have come behind the wheel of a blue-ovaled automobile, as did his 1999 Winston Cup title. In addition, Jarrett's father, Ned, won both of his Cup titles as a Ford factory driver, and Dale Jarrett Ford is one of the largest Ford dealerships in the country, located in Monroe, NC about one hour north of Darlington. Priority number one for the suits in Dearborn? Making sure the rest of their camp stay put, in particular Jarrett's current teammate Elliott Sadler.(FoxSports)(5-13-2006)

So .........He owns a big ford dealership.......whoopdedo......people who work at Ford don't all drive fords and so on.... HIS CONTRACT IS UP AT THE END OF THE YEAR....let it go, you bunch of cry babies. Dale wants to be the first of a new era...I say good for him.

His switch cannot be about money...he has all of that he and his family even MIGHT ever use. The switch over to yota must be about something else.. Maybe he thinks the yotas will be winners and SOON too? Maybe he will now have a big YOTA dealership too?

Oh here we go with the dealership thing.....i really don't think that is true, but if that was, can you blame him??? Mikey is a pretty savy guy when it comes to the business world, so is his brother. I know there are a lot of Waltrip detractors out there, but these guys know where the future of the sport is heading. I look for one of the other Toyota teams to recruit another veteran of DJs' caliber to make an immediate impact. I said this on another post, this is a wake up call for these other manufacturers...i see it as adding more and better competition. Toyota does not want to be # 2 at anything, that includes Nascar. Just my DH opinion here, but Honda won't be too far behind. They already have their feelers out in Nascar with engine development programs and what not. I wouldn't be surprised if they watch Toyota a few seasons and mirror what they have just done. I'm a long time follower of Nascar, since 1965 when i attended my first Nascar race at Stafford Speedway. I cringed when Bill went to the Dodge guys, but you know what i got over it. Now Bill driving a Chevy which will soon be a Toyota next season....how things have changed. I still will follow Nascar even more so now, because i feel the next generatioon of this sport is going to be very exciting.

Mopardh9... Good post. I wonder if the big 3 will step it up? Or will they just fade away?

DW has had a toyota and honda(i think) dellership in Franklin, TN (just south of nashville) for years, since his chevy and ford days in cup.

Gotta do what ya gotta do to survive in the sport. It changes every day now it seems. I think money had a lot to do with it, but it wasn't just that. These guys that have been around for 20 or more years have seen a lot of evolution. They have to jump on the Bandwagon or be a pioneer now, if not, then it is time to just hang it up and find another sport to play. Most of the young guns are chomping at the bit, because they have the owners by the you know what. If you as a driver have that certain look, that witty personable approach to life, and a good sponsor looking at you...then you got it made baby. So all the old guys just look at it like this i think, get what you can while you can, if you don't cya. The sponsors aren't going to wait around, the young guys aren't going to wait either, and the owners meanwhile will lose $$$ waiting. It is all about timing as it is in most things in life.

I wonder if 2 years down the road if DJ might not be a team owner with a few drivers himself. He would have the credibility to pull it off and this Toyota pay day would finance a startup.

IMHO if anybody should be furious it's RYR and DJ at Ford. They were the big losers in the Rousch/Yates deal a couple of years ago. If I remember right and correct me if I'm wrong, didn't that deal have RYR sharing engine secrets with Rousch and Rousch sharing chassis secrets with RYR? Even if it didn't at that time why hasn't Ford stepped in to help all it's teams and request Rousch help RYR get their cars up to date? Isn't it in Fords best interest to have all it's teams running well? Maybe this will be a wakeup call to Ford. If you want to increase the number of Fords on the track you better be willing to support all of them!

This is an excellent point and the basis of a rumor that I've been hearing at work (UPS). The rumor is that with the imbalance of the Rousch/Yates deal and since Rousch has to cut down to 4 teams soon anyway that Rousch will let Carl Edwards come to Yates/UPS. I would love to see this happen! My name is GoDJ, but that is because of the UPS shield on his hood.

Sorry, have no links. Just rumblings through the Big Brown Machine. ;)

LOL yeh ....ok...actually that is right on...the kat lady was being sly!

So are you the guy in the commercials? Are you the big one with the blond hair that climbs on the hauler? Or, the little mousy one that goes over the cliff? :)

Rusty owned the Pontiac dealership when Penske switched from Pontiac to Ford and owned the Ford dealership when they switched from Ford to Dodge.

Rick Hendrick owns a Honda dealership in Charleston, SC.

So you think Rick's waiting to be Honda's flagship team when they come into NASCAR?

Lappy, GM may not have a say in it. Financially they are in BAD shape, and I think when Honda decides to enter NASCAR they'll make Toyota look like cheapskates when they came in.

My point is people in racing own a variety of dealerships regardless of their racing ties. The earlier post mentioned Jarrett owning a Ford dealership. That will have no bearing on his driving career and his dealership will still probably sell Fords.

That was the point I was trying to make, by posting the variety of dealerships that Rusty owns. :)

My next door Neighboor owns a Chevy dealership, Toyota one , and another dealership in Conn., plus he spends all winter in SC, where i believe he has his fingers into another dealership. Its' like monopoly with these guys, see who can get the most houses(cars-dealerships). Yeh i think Honda is going to be huge, they won't do the truck route either i think they will just jump right in with the Accord badge and go to town. DH stands for Die Hard 9 fan! Ha!

AWWW, you spoiled my fun! :D

I have a VERY STRONG feeling that Honda will make the jump by '08. I think they'll do well!

How did i spoil it.....still somewhat of a mystery unless you delve into the archives....lol

By the way it would be nice to have Casey Mears fill the 88's seat. Bring Texaco Havoline with him and bring the #28 out of storage. That would be cool.

will never happen

The latest rumor i beleive has Carl Edwards going to the 88 with UPS staying as sponsor. Yates and Roush supposedly worked out a deal to get Edwards in the 88. So it looks like possibly Burger King, which is 1 of Mikeys' current sponsors on Bill Elliots car, will move over to DJs' for 07. They are also talking about running a third car, part time , with possibly Bill Elliot as the driver.
