was wondering what people's thoughts were on daryll waltrip munging Christian Fittipaldi's name into "fidda-petty".
will the sport every show respect to people that arent from the states? or will it stay in the stone ages forever?
 
WEll I think its kinda funny. He drives For Petty so it works.
 
I didn't see any intent to make fun of Christian's name. DW had pronounced it correctly before.

If I remember correctly, when John Andretti started driving for Petty, his name was changed, too.

Now if he continues to wear it out over the next few weeks, then I would say that it would be objectionable.

People need to lighten up. Ol' DW would have done the same no matter what country they are from. Fittapaldi comes from a good racing family, so I think he gets the same if not more respect than any other rookie.
 
i didnt mean to offend anyone i was just saying maybe a little more respect should be shown...because like you said he comes from a storied, well respect racing family.

It's all a matter of context. It's a lot harder to tell if someone is being sarcastic or not through the written word. Plus we don't know what else was being said in relation to the name change.
