Not sure why, but the other day I was thinking about how we used to see drivers go on a hot streak and rattle off four wins in a row. In the modern era (1972+), 8 drivers have accomplished the feat: Cale Yarborough (1976), Darrell Waltrip (1981), Dale Earnhardt (1987), Harry Gant (1991), Bill Elliott (1992), Mark Martin (1993), Jeff Gordon (1998), and Jimmie Johnson (2007). Then I got to wondering: with this new Chase format, will we ever see this again?

It used to be a semi-common occurrence in the 80's and 90's, but has happened only once in the last 15 seasons. Is it because of the Chase, or has the competition just gotten tighter? Since JJ pulled it off in '07, we haven't even had any drivers win three in a row. And I think the Win and You're In format will make these streaks even less likely.

I think we will have trouble seeing again. there is too much parity in the sport. JJ did it in 07, 07 was a weird year because they ran both the COT and the old car. HMS won half the races that year. Drivers that go on a hot streak like that find an advantage with the car, harry gant's was the famous cambered rear end. they cut the rear axle shafts with a rounded end where it goes through the drive plate, this allowed them to tip the right rear tire in at the top. drivers that when like that do so with an equipment advantage

The 4 car has been fast enough this year to accomplish 4 wins in a row, had it not been for some weird failures he probably would have and still might

Tony Came damn close in 2011. Had two pairs of 2 in a row within a span of a couple of weeks.

That's damn impressive.

I dont think anyone can win 4 straight, at least this year.

Hell, even Harvick who's had the best car pretty much every week cant even do 2 in a row let along 4.

Too much competition this year for those kind of things to happen in my opinion.

Parity...lol...

Its a PC thing

A parity bit is a bit, with a value of 0 or 1, that is added to a block of data for error detection purposes. It gives the data either an odd or even parity, which is used to validate the integrity of the data.

http://www.techterms.com/definition/parity_bit

Parity bits are often used in data transmission to ensure that data is not corrupted during the transfer process. For example, every 7 bits of data may include a parity bit (for a total of 8 bits, or one byte). If the data transmission protocol is set to an odd parity, each data packet must have an odd parity. If it is set to even, each packet must have an even parity. If a packet is received with the wrong parity, an error will be produced and the data will need to be retransmitted.

I know what the **** parity is & I commend you on your copy & paste definition. But what in the ham sandwich does it have to do with drivers winning 4 ina row?

Parity means that 4 wins in a row will not likely happen..I was trying to be cool...and I failed lols

Parity has a couple meanings one meaning is the one I mentioned the other is means any one can win any day

I was trying to be funny and I failed.

the state or condition of being equal, especially regarding status or pay.
"parity of incomes between rural workers and those in industrial occupations"
synonyms:equality, equivalence, uniformity, consistency, correspondence, congruity, levelness, unity, coequalityMore

....and the fact that he is Delana's wife. That's good for a few screw ups and the alienation of your team.

I agree that parity might reduce the odds , but wtf does the new 'luck into a win and you're in format' have to do with it . I've never seen a race that drivers didn't want to win ....that would be stupid . And if they were less likely to pull off four wins in a row because of some stupid chase system , that would only prove what a farce it is .

Only 12 races in, neither you nor I know for sure. But, looking at the early results, with 10 winners in 12 races and not so much as a back to back winner yet, it would appear to have some effect.

Once they are locked into the Chase, teams are more willing to make gutsy strategy calls regarding tire and fuel strategy.

It'd be awesome if Johnson went on a tear that included in a 4 in a row win! :D

I'm still not getting what this has to do with the chase . Has Jimmy not been trying to win this year? Why did he start trying to win at Charlotte and Dover ? If he runs off four in a row , is it because he is good or because of the stupid , 'win and you're in', chase ?
