Who else thinks that Fox's new "3D" feature is one of the silliest things to come to race broadcasts in recent years? I mean, what's the point? I can see a heck of a lot more from watching the replay. I don't know who comes up with these gimmicks (remember Fox's "glowing" hockey puck for NHL broadcasts? ), but IMO it certainly dumbs down the look of the broadcast.

True. It is way less technically advanced that any racing game and really does not show all that much. Replay is far better.

The few replays I've seen with it always showed me LESS information than the actual replay! Several times I remember seeing stuff 'not quite right' in the animations.

If there were only 2 or 3 cameras, then I could see the benefit... but with all the angles they have of the REAL thing, it baffles me why they would want to show it in video game format....

it also makes the incidents seem less "real" too... which isn't a great thing since there are REAL drivers who were just in an accident. (can't just push reset with a real person)

yea, i think they mainly designed it for when the main cameras aren't enough...but they could at least call in EA or somebody to do a better recreation.

The 3-D thing makes the point I have been trying to make for years..
Just because you CAN do something is no reason to DO IT!
Betsy:rolleyes:

I may be wrong, but I think this goes much further than for what it appears to be used for. For one thing, the transponders in the cars have been there for a few years. I had heard that at first, they were using it all to gather info for gaming purposes. But I've also heard that it can be used for accident investigation. They can get a total view of something whereas the TV cameras only give a two dimensional view. I just think that FOX is trying to be inovative as they have in the past, and though it appears there are plenty of critics (what else is new in this sport?) I'm sure they haven't finished with what they want to do.

Now what I want to see is Jeff Hammond at a plywood mockup of the track and him pushing Matchbox cars around simulating the pileup.
Who do I send that idea to?
