What do you all think about Nascar and Fox
BIG TV News - NASCAR declines TV option with Fox after 2006: NASCAR declined an option to extend its TV contract with Fox Sports past the 2006 racing season, said Dick Glover, NASCAR's vice president of broadcasting and new media. Fox, NBC and Turner Sports are in the fifth year of a six-year, $2.4 billion contract to televise NASCAR races. NASCAR had to decide by May 31 whether to pick up its option with Fox through 2008. Glover said the move was made to end all of its television contracts simultaneously. "All it means is we've synced up the agreements with our broadcast partners," Glover said. "We've said all along we'd like to renew with all of them. That hasn't changed." Glover didn't disclose the size of the option. "Our contract runs through 2006, and we are continuing discussions with NASCAR about a new deal," Fox spokesman Dan Bell said. Former ABC Sports Executive Steve Solomon said ABC and ESPN are possible bidders for NASCAR's rights when the current agreements expire after the 2006 season.(Tennessean)(6-4-2005)

I agree with Betsy.

But it's not neccessarily 'FOX'. It's the production. They could move to any network.

Well this just open the door to pay per view, or yet another cable deal!
Once again it's all about the $$$, thanks again Na$car!

That's what I was thinking, pay per view or cable.

You got that rite Kelloggs5TLfan, I guess all good things come to and end.....sooner or later.

yeah alot of nascar fans are not gonna like this, even nascar could lose fans cause of this..

I don't see it going to PPV, but it could lead to a cable deal. It's only been since FOX and NBC got this most recent broadcasting contract that's it's been on broadcast TV......even now some of the races are cable only (FX and TNT). But you're right. It is about $$$! :) All successful business ventures are about $$$........name one sport that has a fan base to keep it at or near the top in popularity that does not keep the bottom line healthy with big pot of gold! :) PPV would reduce the fan base by quite a bit........cable might reduce it some, too. But, as usual, we have the conspiracy enthusiasts shouting "the sky's falling, the sky's falling........". :D

PPV w/out commercials if it were priced along the lines of the NFL wouldn't be a huge deterrent to a lot of fans. I've long wished they would have that option of no commercials that would replace their In-Car broadcast.

well, it is possible that they declined the option so they can get more money out of fox, and more money out of abc/espn, or, cbs, or nbc. with more networks going for the rights, their bids will skyrocket. i don't see fox losing nascar. i do see abc getting the nbc portion of the schedule though

ABC did a pretty darned good job covering the Indy 500!! But, I'd rather they take over the FOX portion! :D I figure that would get rid of DW!! :beerbang: :beerbang:

This year's broadcast of the Indy 500 was the worst in many years. The only good coverage was about the 'rookie sensation'.

That could very well be the case............but it beat the heck out of FOX's weekly broadcast of NASCAR races! :)

I'm glad you put that smiley at the end. So we're know that you're only joking. ;)

ABC used to have great Indy race coverage. This year it was a soap opera.

ABC's coverage of the Indy 500 did, in my opinion, beat the heck out of FOX's weekly coverage of the NASCAR races. The coverage of this year's 500 by ABC could have been horrible in comparison to years past.......but even that horrible coverage beat FOX's weekly coverage. I put a smiley at the end not to signify I was joking........I put there because there is little else one can do except smile and move on.

The commentators did spend a lot time talking about Danica.........but they also paid quite a bit of attention to what was happening on the track. There wasn't the constant chit chat about yesteryear and "funny" stories being told while a lead change was taking place or someone moving through the field. The talk was mostly about what was happening on the track...........right now!! Not what happened in 1986 "when I was racing Dale down the backstretch at Darlington"........especially if we are watching a race at Richmond! That's what I'm talking about when I say the coverage was miles ahead of FOX's. :)

There's that smiley again.
