FOX,moving NASCAR Sprint Cup Talladega qualifying from FOX Sports 2 to FOX, 1st non-Daytona qualifying session has aired on FOX.

The numbers look good enough to make a move..... For one race at least.

Qualifying for next month's event at Talladega Superspeedway will move to FOX, and be aired from 1-2:30 p.m. ET on May 3. The session will consist of three segments, the first of which will have all entered cars on the 2.66-mile track at the same time, and during which drafting will likely determine the top speed. The fastest 24 cars advance to the second segment, and the fastest 12 to the final segment, which will determine the pole.

"This move is a direct result of the double-digit ratings gains NASCAR's new knockout qualifying format is delivering every weekend," said Bill Wanger, Executive Vice President of Programming, Research & Content Strategy. "We are thrilled to be able to highlight this new format on FOX, and what more exciting place to do that than Talladega Superspeedway."

Some more on this can be read here.

So, Fox picks up the Qualifying for 'Dega, and I'm sitting here wondering why. What makes anybody think that the big guns will puts their cars on the line for pole when starting position still doesn't matter? I think you are just going to see what we have always seen at 'Dega Qualifying--teams playing it safe. Thoughts....

Forgive my repost. If the mod would kindly merge my 'Dega Qualifying post with this, it would be appreciated.

My prediction..... Two qualifying threads this week.

Outside of that I think we may see some teamwork. Sure, qualifying doesn't seem to matter a whole heckuva lot but there are a lot of ego's behind the wheels out there. For the most part, I think they all want to win at everything they do. I'm going to guess that we will still see speeds far higher in qualifying than we've seen in some time.

With the rate at which you can move up and fall through the field here it doesn't really matter. You can start 40th and be 5th in a few laps.

Well, I would not want be side by side with "certain" drivers in the back.....esp on a superspeedway

After going back and looking at the stats on qualifying vs finishing positions in restrictor plate racing the results show that much more often than not that starting up front is more important than I thought. Most times the winner comes from the single digit starting positions. At Daytona moreso than Talladega. That may be because Talladega is so much wider making it easier to pass.

Daytona is more of a handling racetrack than Talladega.

I don't see it. Those guys won't practice at that place. Why would they risk their cars for nothing? Look for BK or TBR on pole.

I said way back when the Brain announced all the changes I would simply judge the moves by the racing I was seeing. Right now, the Brain is a genius. Qualifying is intriguing, if not exciting, and the racing has been the best in nascar's history. Brian even pulled off the impossible: Illustrating the difference between 'always racing for the win' and 'ALWAYS RACING FOR THE $%&^#@ WIN!

I'm loving it. I picked the perfect time to move to nascar country. I'll be at the all-star race, and hope to make M'ville, Richmond and Bristol later this year. I get steel in my shorts just thinking how insane the racing will be at those 3 tracks when 'screw the points, go for the win' has completely taken over.

Nice to see someone actually praising what they're seeing rather than finding fault in everything about the sport.

Claire B. Lang reporting on NASCAR Radio that there are rumblings of a lap on the apron, and park it for qualifying. Better get NASCAR PR on the horn to Fox.

Considering only four backmarkers miss the race, the chances of a wreck, and how little the starting lineup means here it's probably not worth risking your car.

McMurray is saying three segments is probably unnecessary for plate qualifying too.
