Ben Kennedy is no ordinary NASCAR Camping World Truck Series rookie.

As the great-grandson of NASCAR founder William H.G. "Big Bill" France and the nephew of NASCAR Chairman Brian France, Kennedy is under a microscope far more intense than most drivers face at his level.

But Kennedy, a 22-year-old who graduated last week from the University of Florida with a degree in sports management, isn't bothered by the extra pressure and scrutiny that come with being part of NASCAR's first family -- which includes his mother, Lesa France Kennedy, who is the CEO of International Speedway Corp. and daughter of the late NASCAR Chairman Bill France Jr.

"You know, it's definitely there, and my family has been supportive throughout the whole process coming up through the ranks and everything," said Kennedy, who began racing full time in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East in 2011 and last year finished fourth in the series standings with two wins, one pole, three top fives and nine top 10s.

Yeah, and people thought Jr got special treatment from NASCAR.More power to him for wanting to race but it seems like a major conflict of interests.Kind of like a jury at a murder trial where the defendant is a well loved family member of the jury.We the jury find him not guilty...even though there's video evidence of him being guilty.I hope that kind of stuff won't happen but it probably will.Good luck Ben.

Bet he rolls through tech and never, ever has a problem.

He'll never even be given a chance by most of the fans. That sucks for him. No matter how he does.. he will be accused of things like this...

So....most people are never given a chance to race. No sympathy here.

kid will have to earn his stripes....but will other drivers be hesitant around him?

He seems like a nice guy.Plus he's in a Chevy.I'm going to give him a chance and try not to pay too much attention to any conspiracies that are bound to pop up.

true, and he does seem and talk like a nice young man with a good head on his shoulders. kinda like owning cars and racing against them driving for another driver. i'm just curious if he'll have talent like

or a name like

If a caution ever helps him win a race, will people question that?

That might even be a time that I see it as fishy and I always go to bat for Nascar on things like this.

it sure has gave a win to others, so he should be no different, just because of his name. if it came down to a borderline decision or call, i would tend to favor the side that controls my employment. may not be fair, but it is what it is.

well, he just hit wall during truck qualifying.....:(

Funny day for this thread with him wadding his truck up and all.

That said, he seems to be rising thru the ranks relatively under the radar. I haven't seen big corporate sponsors on his racecars, he has had some good runs... For being an heir to NASCAR he doesn't have the lavish set up you would expect.

I hope he is a better role model than JC France who raced Grand Am; he got busted for possession (charges were dropped on a technicality).

Yeah. Pretty sure there were more than a couple phone calls between the France family and Daytona Beach PD over that deal.

Lol technicality. You either possess cocaine, or you don't.

He had cocaine, but he was initially observed on a street technically not in Daytona Beach and arrested outside of Daytona Beach. A crock of ****, if you ask me.

"Last October, J.C. France was stopped by Daytona Beach police after he was observed in a 2007 Lamborghini racing on a public road against his half-brother Russell Van Richmond. According to police reports J.C. France was found with a bag of cocaine and was charged with drug possession and driving under the influence.

According to the story in the News-Journal, a technicality concerning exactly where J.C. France was stopped by police wiped away the charges against him. The Daytona Beach News-Journal story explains that because the arresting officer initially observed J.C. France run a red light on a street technically not in Daytona Beach and then pulled him over outside of Daytona Beach, Circuit Judge Patrick Kennedy dropped the charges.

The newspaper also reported that J.C. France, who has been a competitor in the Grand-Am Rolex Series Daytona Prototype division for the Brumos Porsche team since the series' inception in 2003, has had his Grand-Am suspension lifted and is allowed to race again in the series.

Essentially, J.C. France was handed a 4-race suspension by the NASCAR owned racing series. Four races of sit down punishment for racing on public roads under the influence while in possession of cocaine.

How anybody from NASCAR can on one hand say they believe in strong policies against drugs in their sport and then allow J.C. France back on the track after a 4-race suspension is unimaginable. NASCAR isn't even pretending to show a backbone or any stern stance against drugs in the sport in this instance.

For decades, while other major league sports beefed up drug testing policies, NASCAR stood idly by operating under an antiquated system of testing only under suspicion. The prevailing wisdom is that NASCAR finally relented and introduced its current system of mandatory testing across the board in the Sprint Cup Series, Nationwide Series and Camping World Truck Series prior to the 2009 season only after being bullied into it by years of criticism that they were far behind the times.

Allowing J.C. France back on the track after he skirted drug charges on a technicality hardly shows that NASCAR means business in any sense when it comes striking back against drug users in racing. Or maybe it just means its good to have the last name France and be a racer in a NASCAR owned series. No matter how its looked at, Brian France should be embarrassed for the message he is sending about drugs in the sport."

Total crock of ****. Thanks for the refresher, couldn't remember the details.

The France mafia can buy their way out of just about anything. I remember this incident pretty well. Anybody else would have been put under the jail.
