So, we await the tandem style racing at Daytona. Some here like it, while it seems the majority do not. But it begs the question - when it comes down to the final laps (or even 30 to go), do you see any of the following pairings hooking up and pushing each other to the finish line? Or is it simply a "I'll help you if you help me, but only until turn four and then you're on your own, buddy" mentality that's going on here? Will these drivers overlook their differences for the sake of the "big picture"? There are ten races left before the Chase, and maybe these drivers should be looking for that important 1st win (or 2nd for insurance) rather than any scores to settle.
1. Tony Stewart and Brian Vickers
2. Tony Stewart and David Reutimann
3. Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick
4. Kasey Khane and Jaun Pablo Montoya
5. Juan Pablo Montoya and Brad Kesolowski
6. Joey Logano and Robby Gordon
I'm sure there are others, but these are the ones that are fresh on my mind, and I'm sure on the driver's minds themselves. Here's what NASCAR.com had to say before the race at Talladega earlier this year:
It's becoming so bad, drivers are actually talking to rival drivers on the radio ... DURING THE RACE. Why? So they can work on their two-car tango together. Something tells me even if the technology was there, Richard Petty and David Pearson wouldn't be racing like this.
NASCAR, we have a problem.
What do you think?
