Have a friend that is new user to the internet. I know some of you all are experts at this. Need to know good websites to download anti-virus protection. Also how to check security of the computer. Told him a few things I knew but couldn't remeber the websites you all know about! Any help is much appreciated. :) Might even us the sites myself. I am not running a virus program yet, can't decide which one

NORTON! and sign up for Worldstart.com. They send a daily newsletter with computer hints and have an online computer assistance site as well as discounted prices on software.

88, there are a few free anti virus' out there, but you can never be sure about them. The best bet is to purchase one and then you can update often for newer scan engines. However, if you ever want to check your computer, you can always go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com and scan your computer for free. It is always up to date and has much info about virus'. It used to be a rare thing to get a virus, but not today. I get about two to three of them a week and sometimes more. I use Norton's Internet Security and it not only catches everything, but also updates by itself.

Thanks for the info and I'll pass it onto him. I will probably get Nortons and update as necessary.

Try these:

Most are from download.com. which is the first link. You will probably have to register in order to download anything, but it's free.:) The second link is mostly a site that discusses internet security with links to other sites such as anti-virus. There are also some security tests you can do......free. Lots if information at that site and it's fairly easy to navigate too.:)

Cutie and I use Norton Anti-virus 2003 Pro. It's a purchased software simply because I haven't found any free anti-virus that I would trust. I prefer Norton over McAfee........but, there is nothing wrong with McAfee (many swear by it). I don't have the link but McAfee used to have an online scanner that you could use to check for virui.......maybe just type in www.McAfee.com and see if it takes you there. There are free anti-virus programs available......might try a search on download.com. Just type in anti-virus in the search box and when you get to first page of the results, filter the search for your operating system and license "free".......that will reduce the number to something you can browse.

Hope this helps.:)

I knew you all would come through for me. I really need to get a anti-virus program and now I think I am better informed! Thanks for all the help, you guys are great!:)
