watched practice today.
truex did 2 laps or so....then parked.
6 laps or so since they unloaded last week.....say tv wonks.

yet he was p2 in qual.

new team....new driver..... in new car for him . ............yet p2.....w/ only a few laps. ???

i like truex....just thought it odd.
just used #3 set up maybe ? w/ rcr motor.

guess we'll see in duals.

78 was fast last year, not surprised in the least at this and Truex may not be KB but he can wheel a car.

Truex is a pretty decent Cup Series plate racer & he was a dominant plate racer during his Busch Series Championship years. Maybe the combination of him in an ECR powered Chevy will be a good one, at least at the plate tracks anyways...

Well they have the same engines... I remember them saying they didn't expect to be that fast but when they got the front row they decided not to mess around with it too much, they don't want to "knock the new off it".

78 car is good at Daytona and I think they run the ECR engines.

The interview with Truex that I saw had him saying he wanted to run more laps, but his crew chief wouldn't let him. Saving the car I guess.

yeah....point was ...he only ran 2 laps in practice ...prior ta qualifyin.
that's lotsa confidence........esp for new team.

anybody recall a team ever doin that at daytona ?

he topped the leader board in practice with those two laps for most of that day. Crew chief told him to pit and wouldn't let him run anymore laps. He was fast enough I guess for his crew chief. I wouldn't hold my breath, most of them will be wheel holding in the duals, only one that need a good finish is Kurt Bush, he doesn't have any owners points, that is why Stewart is going to try to race in also so he doesn't have to use his past champions provisional. That will let Kurt use his if anything happens. This race is nothing but a gimmick for the most part.

if that car wrecks or the motor blows they loose the spot. why risk the car?? in fact if I was in the duals I would pull to the back. there isn't much to do setup with these cars at daytona like at other tracks. the only thing to learn would be how the car is in the draft which it appears they think they can learn enough either in the practices after the duals OR in the race itself. those front row spots are locked in, why risk damaging the car and having to go to the back??

kurt was p 33 last yr........started 11th in 500 after dual.

wonder if truex will fade ta back tonite.....protect 500 start ?
then work on race set up friday / sat practice.
new strategy maybe ??? .

Sounds feasible, we'll watch and see but wouldn't be surprised if that's the call.
