Gannassi trying to sign a driver?

Now that Chip Ganassi has lost the battle for Stewart, he could jump back into the marketplace to find another man to fill that possible fourth Winston Cup team. According to one man familiar with the new game plan, Ganassi is going to the top of the standings and will keep making runs at drivers at the sport's big names until he finds one willing to bite on his $5 million a year deal. Kenseth signed for 2004+; Earnhardt Jr. - not signed; Harvick is signed; Johnson is signed; Gordon is signed; Busch signed; Newman signed; Waltrip signed; Labonte signed.......seems to be pointing at one driver in the 'top of the standings'
 
I might be wrong (most likely) but isnt Ganassi Jimmie Johnsons crew chief? Sorry if Im wrong, but is it?

Oh and one more thing, why would jr. sign with Ganassi if he's with DEI? As you can tell I dont know that much.

I am with you Dale8. I can't see Jr. leaving DEI anytime soon. But I have been wrong before. :D
 
Dale Jr isnt leaving the company, basically becuase he is a part-owner of it
 
So according to this rumor, it wasn't that Tony was worth $5 mil, that is what Ganassi is willing to pay for any driver? Well any half way decent driver I should say...

The rumor is more than likley due to the fact that Jr. still hasn't signed his contract with DEI.

Yep, Ganassi is willing to sign anybody and I dont blame him, he's got McMurray and Mears basically two young drivers wouldnt hurt to have another one and have a driver who's last name doesnt start with m... I think Earnhardt Jr. probably wont leave DEI but at the same time he's probably contemplating on it. We've heard reports that Dale thought it'd be interesting to drive for another race team besides DEI. Could be a decision down to the wire.

Starting to paint the Target/Budweiser Dodge for NR2003 just in case :lol:
 
Dosnt it though? lol I dont like the idea, jr needs to wake up and see how many people like him with DEI....but he's young and can afford to do this I quess.
 
Alot of fans want him to go to RCR, they'd make a good combination. Of course Dale Jr. won 2 Busch Series Championships with Richard Childress.

the busch championships were with dei in the 3 busch car, but he did win a busch race with rcr at daytona last year.

i just dont see that working. Sterling is sponsored by another beer company, and i dont think chevy will want to lose him to dodge...

The ownership is with Chance2 racing and his partnership with his step-mother in that venture.
In articles read and other posts, never have I seen where Dale, Jr. has a personal financial interest in DEI other than as a paid driver and advisor.
 
I agree with whizzer, chance 2 is one thing, but DEI is another. I have heard talk of dale possibly gettihg part ownership in the future but never heard of anything confirming it.

One would wonder why Dale Jr would leave DEI ????????? Dale Jr is getting a lot better and much more consistent this year on the track! It must be that him and Theresa just don't get along! I wish old Jr could take over DEI >>> It would probably be a better place! Still can't believe that Theresa threw away the Penzoil Sponsorship with Sam Hornish >>>> that wasn't a bright move on her part! Hard to find sponsorships right now>>>>>> Norris went out and busted his tail to make the Penzoil/Hornish deal and she goes and stops it!

All we see is the surface of the deal. She may have had a good reason to stop the deal. We don't know She does have insider information. But I do agree that sponcers are hard to get. Wander what it was that she didn'tlike.
 
We heard lots of reports of Ty Norris trying to make a deal with Sam Hornish Jr. even before that article was released. Then the rumors were just put to a complete halt.
