Gaughan will NOT return to the #77 in 2005; Kvapil? Brendan Gaughan was told his contract would not be renewed with Penske-Jasper Racing [#77 Kodak Dodge], and apparently Gene Haas has offered Gaughan, 29, the #0 Chevy seat for 2005. Haas-CNC G.M. Joe Custer added that Richard "Bootie" Barker would remain as crew chief on the #0 and has a three-year contract. Putting Travis Kvapil in the #77 next season is coming with a price. Alex Meshkin wanted compensation for letting Kvapil out of his Bang Racing contract, so Kvapil is expected to run 20 Busch events next season in a Dodge.(FoxSports/Sporting News)

Hey, I love Kvapil almost as much as I love gaughan, but it ain't the driver over at the 77, and if it appears to be so next year, it just means they started giving him halfway decent equipment.
I hope Gaughan does NOT go to the 0, they will do the same thing to him that they did to ward and the same thing that penske did to him. I just lost all respect for that team and now I've lost all respect for Penske as well. Back to the truck series, I hope.

And the movement toward the disposable driver marches onward.

Gaughan never irritated me, which is more than I can say for a lotta guys. Shame to see 'em brought up so young only to be demoted again unless they provide immediate success. In the old days, a driver earned his way into a Cup ride with years of toil in the "minors". Once they arrived at the Cup level, they were pretty much there for awhile in most cases. They may bounce around from car to car, but 90% were there to stay. Now it seems we push them to Cup before they're ready, maybe 6 or 8 at a time, and the best one or two survive; the rest are sent back to "other series". I think that's more demoralizing to a driver's psyche and a harder hit to their career path than having to wait 8 years or so to break through.

But what do I know? I hang by my tail in a damn tree all day, right?

I agree. I am not pro or con Gaughan but do believe that he was not ready for the big show. It will be interesting to see if Kyle has the same type of year next year as Sauter did this year. I wish that they would get more seasoning for the young'uns and keep the veterans around a little longer.

I think Kyle's move has to do with Terry's move...but I think Kyle and Truex should battle it out again next year honestly.

What was the deal with Riggs, though, didn't he toil for awhile? I agree with the whole disposable driver thing.

Oh Boy this really scares me. :beerbang: But I agree whole heartedly EMP

i really like brendan, he seems like a good guy but was rushed too soon. i think he needs at least one more year of busch or trucks or some combination of both. i dont think kvapil is ready yet either.

i have to admit that I was rather surprised when Gaughan was in the 77...I figured he'd spend another year in Trucks before even moving to Busch...but what do I know?

Kvapil has done well this year in the CTS even with a brand new team and new manufacturer...I think he will do well in the NNCS...not so much for his skill, but because they were obviously using Brendan as a full time R&D driver this season while merging two teams together. The cars won't be crap next year and I hope Kvapil doesn't get the same raw deal that Brendan has...I'm not even looking at it as a competition like, "Kvapil is better so they got him" deal, I just have zero respect for the whole Penske/Jasper organization now.

What I was saying about Riggs, two full busch seasons, two in trucks, WTF happened to him in his jump to cup? Is it just the crappy equipment of the 10 team? I don't know, I just feel bad for him, he seems like he's paid his dues and is a pretty good guy, is he getting a raw deal too?
