DW Q&A: What does Boogity, Boogity, Boogity mean?
BY DARRELL WALTRIP
FOX Sports
Q: I was wondering what "Boogity! Boogity! Boogity!" means and why do you say that?
Darrell Waltrip: I sent a crew out to the library. They looked it up in the dictionary, and they didn't find any real conclusive evidence there as to what it meant. People through the garage have been polled and asked. Fans have been asked. So far, we have not been able to come up with a definition. But it seems to be one of those cults that has caught on and is growing rapidly. I'm just fueling it if you will. Dumping a little fuel on it if you will. I just wanted to have something different. I think it's definitely accomplished that.
Q: Where did you get it from?
Darrell Waltrip: It just came out of my mouth one day. I don't know where it came from. Larry McReynolds and Mike Joy looked at me one day and they said, "DW, they're coming to take the green." And I said, "Yeah! Boogity! Boogity! Boogity!" Then, the next thing I know, they're holding up signs in the grandstand. You know they did a poll on NASCAR.com in 2002 about whether people liked it or didn't like it. Sixty-seven percent of the people liked it and said to keep it. So that's a mandate as far as I'm concerned. It's the 21st Century way to start the race.
Q: How long have you used it?
Darrell Waltrip: Since 2002. I don't know. Some time in the middle part of 2002. I just thought it was boring. Our coverage is about being fun and exciting and different. I just thought it was boring to hear, "Go. Go. Go. Green. Green. Green." I just thought I'd spice it up a little bit. That's what it's all about.
