Gee, what a surprise!

I have heard Ray say many times he would never go back to being a crew chief. I really thought he would end up helping Petty, but what the hey, I am happy for him.

I wonder if this will get his wife a ride in a truck or Nationwide car. :D

Wonder how long it will be before Ray just "accidently" wanders into the 48/88 shop and makes "suggestions." :D
a looong time i bet. jr (with letarte) can't be helped and jj/knaus don't need any suggestions. don't see how his help could be seen as anything but a failure. now, wandering over to the 5/24 shop could be a plus. :) jeff and him are still on good terms as far as i know.

I really thought he would end up with Petty too, in fact I predicted it here in a thread. I knew he wanted to get "back in" in some capacity, I hope he ends up some how with Jr, but that probably will be a long shot.

So no means YES....So Ray is offically a liar:D

Liar? In what sense? He's stated since he went to start his own team and later when paired with RPM that he never wanted to take the role as crew chief again. This latest announcement has absolutely nothing to do with him jumping back on top of the pit box for Hendrick. He's also always stated numerous times that if he were to ever work for anyone else in the future it would be Rick Hendrick.

Looks like since he's been able to crawl out from under the thumb of Gillett he's finally able to do his own thing again.

I don't see where he lied either. Especially since he's not going to be involved in the motor sports part.

No, he said he was happy with what he was doing and he was going to stay in the booth. HE said that right on tv.

Of course he's going to say that. Would you want your boss to know you were going to split at the first opportunity?

Jeez, it's not anyone here has never changed their minds once or twice.

But seriously...Never like the guy after the Bribery and mail fraud fiasco. Then the pardon by Clinton in 2000.
But you said you "hate" the guy. Oh well, hate the guy and love the crime. No wait, it's hate the crime and hate the criminal too.

I know he doesn't want to CC anymore, but a little consulting on the 88 team wouldn't hurt. I would be afraid that he says ditch the driver though.

I agree with Bucky, Hendrick got away with one and I could care less about him or his teams, with the exception of Junior. Wished he never went to drive for Rick.

i don't hate rick but there's not a race that goes by that i don't remember his conviction, miraculous leukemia recovery (which kept him out of prison) and subsequent pardon by clinton. he's just the luckiest car owner in nascar. yeah, that's it.<g> i don't hold it against his drivers that their boss is an angel. that's what i hear anyway. he's probably already bought his ticket to heaven. <g>

Money talks, he bought his way out of a lot, but he does have the most feared organization in Nascar doesn't he? Hmmm $$$ / Nascar, seems that those two things go hand in hand. Hendrick has become basically the equivalent of what the Frances' and Nascar have achieved through ruthless business practices and greed.
