George Jones

This afternoon's playlist at work will be a mixture of two of my favorite older country singers, George and Conway.

Sad day for Country Music.

Don't know why but I started singing "He Stopped Loving Her Today" in my head when I heard the news. RIP George, you are truly one of the legends of Country Music.

Damn

Maybe th best voice country music ever had.
Very unique with sliding the pitches.

As a boy "White Lightning" made me laugh as an adult it made me realize he was a musical genius.

Although I'm not the biggest country fan, there was an awards show on one time and Travis Tritt and some others where paying tribute to George Jones. So they're singing some of his songs or something and when he walks on stage to join them, I thought "wow", these guys sounds like tom cats fighting compared to this guy.

Some of his drunken escapades are stuff of legend ;) Including driving a John Deere lawn mower to the liquor store after his wife hid the car keys.

When I'm rolling down the road from race to race I have GJ on my radio. He was one of the greats.:(

That's a nice video and song. I haven't seen it in years.

"Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes" is a good question. This was from 1985, so it's a relative question. I don't think anybody will ever fill their shoes exactly as it was a different time. Their type of music had such an impact, partly, due to the fact that it was really new. Hank Williams, Sr., Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, Waylon and Willie, Merle Haggard, Lefty Frizzell, Charlie Pride and all those guys are legends like we will never see again.

There have been others since who have, sort of, filled their shoes since then though. Alabama was really starting to leave their mark about the time this song came out. Alan Jackson, Clint Black, Travis Tritt, Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, Toby Keith and a few others, to varying degrees, have had huge followings since as well. Probably the only one who has really stands out from the rest since then though is George Strait. Over 50 number one songs from one artist is pretty incredible to think about.

.... and hence the reason I fell in love with Jason Aldean's "Dirt Road Anthem" song, where he sings, "laid back, swervin' like I'm George
Jones".

RIP
