Our governor has declared a state of emergency for 85 counties and sued the Feds! Water is being released daily to provide water downstreem in Alabama and Florida, yet we are not even allowed to water outdoors. Our lakes are running dry and we in north GA have only about 80 days of useable water left.
Why aren't other stated required to release water to us?

I saw that on TV last night. It was the Army Corp of Engineers.

We don't have any extra up here in Tn either.

The ACoE is releasing the water to protect the water level for mussels downstream, but aren't PEOPLE more important?

We are under mandatory water restrictions in our part of North Carolina and the Governor has asked people to cut their water use by half. It is pretty bad. I don't know whether to stop taking a shower or flushing the toilet. Either would create a smell.

Those that can afford it are having wells dug, but what will the rest of us do? The creeks, streams, rivers and lakes are close to bone dry.

Here in Central Texas

Our lakes on the Colorado River are required to release a certain amount of water so the rice farmers down stream can grow their crops.. In times of drought we watch the lakes being drained of our drinking water too... However this year all of our lakes are brim full.
Betsy ;)

Sorry to hear about your drought.....I can't believe you haven't got the needed rain yet:( Hope you get it soon.

Bucky, we have to have more than 17" of rain in a very short period of time just to make up for the deficit for this year.

Everyone is getting rain today, except us.. It is going east of us and west of us. Hopefully we get some of this rain tonight.

In central NC it has been lightly raining for several days. Not enough to do much to refill the lakes but it sure gets the grass going. 1.73 inches since yesterday.

It's going to be cool and dry for the race this weekend.

Looks like our governor is going to take the ACOE to court!

Two of my worst enemies for my job is rain and wind and today, one of them prevailed all day long and it wasn't windy. Normally, I would grind my teeth walking around getting wet, but that wasn't the case today and probably won't be tomorrow. We got nearly 2.5 inches of rain today and they are calling for almost that much for tomorrow. We're still about 12 inches short of rain for the year, so even if we get double that, it won't bring us up to par, but it'll sure help.

Well Buckster, at least your state isn't required to release water to other states thereby depleting the locals.

The Altamaha and all its tributaries is contained solely in Georgia and runs to the ocean. As does the Satilla. Does Georgia take most of the water from these systems or do they allow even a drop to be wasted in the ocean?
Yeah, I know the environmental types would have a hissy but water is water.

Water restrictions forced upon metro Atlanta by an extreme drought shouldn't have any impact on the upcoming race weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway, track president Ed Clark said Tuesday.

"We've asked the teams to not wash their rigs and their haulers when they arrive here like they usually do," Clark said. "That's the only change."

Now see if they really wanted to do a civic good they could allow the haulers to be lined up and the fans could pay to piss on the hauler of their choice. Serving three purposes; a lot of money would be raised, the haulers would be washed and the fans would be happier.
See, I gots lots of answers...

It's not the 5 and 2 in my book but add them together with a 1 and...

Actually, this might be a more accurate test of the least popular driver. The money raised would have to pay for the extra security to keep Kat from clawing out people's eyes tho.

Would somebody please hold down bp while I piss on it?

ACOE IS DRAINING WATER EVERY DAY FROM OUR RESERVOIRS and there is a complete watering ban for outside. We try to conserve in the home to do our part, but what would happen if we couldn't even flush?

our teacher mentioned this during class for current events..said the main supply lake is only 8 feet deep now?

The races will still affect it though, they have to keep the infield green and it's a smith trck, so theres rwice as many women's bathrooms as mens, but how many flushes is that during a race? Couple thousand at 3 gallons per flush?

As much as y'all kid about it, this is a SERIOUS worry here. Our main reservoir is so low that only 40% is drinkable after treatment. Yes Mag, the reservoir is so low that one could almost walk from one side to the other.

I wish that there were desalination plants here in the USA.

Our drought ended yesterday, officially, with 4 straight days of non-stop rain.

We got some rain, but not near enough to end the dryness here.
Fire dept. is helping the farmers with water. They have about 7 different pumping stations set up.
Different places they are handing out bottled drinking water to people that there well is running dry and getting muddy.

Kell, we had a bit of rain, as you probably did, but we are still having to release water from lake Lanier reservoir downstream to Alabama and Florida.
It seems like Mother Nature is not playing fair with us in the south.
